Cutting and notching door bars is an easy job! Roof bar is a nightmare, easy way to waste alot of time scratching your head!

Seat frames! As my seats are under mounted i need to make the brackets up myself.

Im planning on using a 60mm X 60MM 3MM plate to weld either end of the tubes to spread loads. Will a 25mm box tube be up to the job for the frames!?! If so where can i get some!

are those harness bars? they look way too high. And how come ur rear diagnal comes so far in surely its better for all the bars up there to meet at the same place

The harness bars are as long as they can be to allow me to cut to length when the seats are mounted. They need to fall at 10 degrees from the seat harness holes so cant be done till the seats are in position. When i got my cage i spoke to the bloke who makes them he said it makes no odds to the cage as every pipe you fit is just to support the hoop.

It is better for them to meet at the same place, less torque on the hoop in a crash then, but anywhere within 100mm of the centreline is OK by MSA regs anyway.

Well, im just about ready to take the car to work and do the finishing touches before welding it up!

This is the way i have decided to mount the seats

By ashtal82 at 2010-11-28

By ashtal82 at 2010-11-28

I have put the bolt in the seat from within the seat so when bolting it up its just a nut on the underside, Less messing about trying to line up holes! Smug: Smug:

After aome messing about i also cut and fitted the tunnel brace.

By ashtal82 at 2010-11-28

This is a really tight fit and should offer really good side impact protection.

The X door bars also got cut and tacked in place, not and easy job todo as the hole cutters wont do the cut in one go and the cutter wants to hit the notching tool before finishing the cut, but there all done now.

By ashtal82 at 2010-11-28

By ashtal82 at 2010-11-28

I have started the seat mounts but will finsh them at work as it was -2 and i was getting cold! Also the dash bar and front triangulation todo. Its getting there now tho. :thumb:

Im further on than the pics show but not taken any pics of that yet!

In regards to cutting holes in the floor etc, when the hoop mounts were removed, the cage could drop back and allow me to get any my welds done to all the top surfaces. Happydays

Plenty of room to get the welder in!

Well there have been updates on this car.

Firstly Ashley finished the cage and its had the interior painted, we modified the dash and sat down and worked through the wiring which tbh there appears to be a LOT of stuff that isn't required, I'll probably set to removing a fair bit of it once I've got my head round it and its up and running again.

The engine had the dreaded ticking that seems to be very common, I convinced Ash that we should sort this so the engine was removed and the head removed, turned out that the 2 inlets were very mildly bent so we have replaced those.

The head is being bolted back on tomorrow night and timed up, should be back in and running on saturday.

I need to sort out some oil for it, its a track only car so will simply be getting a good thrashing 99.9% of the time so any advice on a good oil would be appreciated.

More updates soon, I'll tell Ashley to stop being a tightarse and pay the fee !
