Any preference?

Have a budget to work to, was thinking of the PE2's but after pricing up fitting and balancing, and the supposedly average wet weather grip (I live in Scotland, kind of a major factor), i've narrowed it down to the ze912's and Rainsport 2's.

I can get the RS2's for a good price, only slightly more expensive than the Falkens, and the guy fitting the RS2's doesn't deal with Falken any more anyway so would have to find somewhere to fit and balance them if I order online adding more expense.

So far i've ruled out:

T1R's (shite, supposedly a "tuner's choice" Roll eyes)
Prada Spec 2's (shite in the wet supposedly)
F1's (Price)
PE2's (Great durability but over budget)
Potenza's (price again)
Ecsta Sport (almost too cheap, would rather get something good than good value)

There's the ol' price vs wear argument, but I only do about 6k miles a year, so even a set of RS2's will do me 2-3 years motoring depending.

As for driving style, the car's never tracked and my driving ability isn't amazing enough to really push the tyres hard.

Opinions on the back of a postcard fellas Smile

My paradas have been fine in the wet, but mine are 205/40/17, not sure if it makes much differance LOL

I liked the Falkens on my 205, but haven't driven the same car with rainsports so hard to compare, though have driven a 306 with PE2's and RS2's, PE2's gripped better I think, ask AdamB, it his wallyev6 that I drove.

I'm sure PE2's would grip better, especially in the dry, but they're looking over my budget at the minute

Don't think you can get 195/50/15 F1s any more, I couldn't find them anywhere. Sad

Ideally I wanted to try the RS2s next to see how they compare to the F1s (had them on the hdi, the '6 was on p6000s)
I ended up going with T1-Rs in the end, simply down to cost (£126 posted and free fitting with the MOT, thanks to my dad knowing the manager at ATS Happy) so will soon see if they really are crap LOL

But anyway, the RS2s seem to get a better review than the falkens on tyretest.com:

RS2

ze912

certainly look to be worth a try

That's what i was reading Mike, plus i think condieboy has RS2's fitted and seems to rate them.

TBH i think the T1R's would probably suffice for how I use the car daily, but want the option to push on a bit if my right foot gets a bit heavy

Rainsports are a damn good tyre for the money,Had some on a year or so ago. Didn't last me long enough .Pe2s are lasting over twice as long ,so to me well worth the extra cost.Shop around ,where I get my tyres done he had a batch of rainsports in the other day and he would have charged me 35 quid a corner fitted and balanced.still paid 67 quid for a pe2 though.

I have just had falken ze912's put on the front.

They seem to be quite good, but haven't driven them in the wet yet. I only really got them because they were the only decent tyres I could get. Don't know how much you can get them for but they were f*cking expensive LOL

I probably got raped as got them out in the sticks, but cost me £75 a corner fitted. (16")

I have had T1R's before, yes they arn't as good as more expensive tyres but for half the price of the falkens I would probably go for those if I had the choice.

16" tyres are not particularly cheap, so that's not a bad price I doubt.

I can get either ZE912's or Uniroyal Rallye 550's fitted and balanced for £160.

Just rang the guy and he said they don't have Rainsport 2's in my size, but the Rallye is the replacement. Erm?

Still, 86% average rating on tyre review. I dunno, gonna go have a chat with him tomorrow while i get the love bug some new shoes

what size do you need?

the 'rallye' isn't a very good tyre imo
I highly recommend the rainsport though!

195/50/15, although i'm 100% sure you can get RS2's in that size.

Having done some reading I wouldn't settle for the Rallye's. Might see if he can preorder them or something

**edit ahh wait, it's the 55's you can't get. Guess he assumed I meant them.

PE2s are better than the rainsports all-round I think, especially in the wet. Preferred them, but tbh theres nothing wrong at all with the rainsports - I would have thought they were amazing if I hadn't tried the PE2s.

Neither are as good as F1s in the dry, but both are better in the wet. Braking is insane with the PE2s in the wet.

I have a very clear memory of driving at over 100 on the Brussels ring road with it properly p*ssing it down trying to catch a ferry. Those PE2s were bloody good.

Well done for getting up to 100mph on that f*cking thing, every time i drive it, it is nose to tail then i get lost!!!

Anyhow, my last set of rainsports lasted almost 20,000 miles which for the ammount of grip they offer i thought was pretty good. Currently got the rainexperts on which seem o.k but appear to be wearing a bit faster Thumbs up

912's are very good i have found, took a punt on them before and i will be buying them again.

Also those Kumho Ecstas arent actually that bad they loose grip faster than 912's though.

Paradas are not good in the wet, and in the snow LOL every car could get out of the road except mine its about a 2 degree angel.

best value choice is Hankook Ventus Prime K105 get them for less than 50 a tyres- no weaknesses good grip wet and dry but average wear rating- these may well be your best bet.

falken are crap. They are a goodyear budget tyre brand.

Well the guy i was recommended just lost a customer. Almost turned into an argument when he tried to tell me you can't get RS2's in 195/50-15. I assured him you can get them, he was having none of it and tried to fob me off with the Rallyes. When I said i didn't want them or the Proxes he basically said they were the best tyres i'd get for the money Roll eyes

Looks like i'll be ordering them online then. Might take them to him for fitting.. Laugh my ass off

The fk452s certainly aren't crap IMO. Sure they're not the best tyre ever made, but for the money they're a very good allrounder.

You won't catch me ever putting Hankook Ventus back on my car after the last lot I used. Sure it was a few years ago, but they were utterly shit. Really, really utterly shit.

Anyway as Hankook are busy re-inventing themselves maybe its all good... Meantime i'll pay a bit extra for tyres I know are awesome Smile

I'm not sure of their road tyres, they are o.e equipment on FWD transits and other base model Fords, anything half decent spec comes riding on Michelins from them though....

Their tarmac Rally tyres seem very popular in the UK I have noticed.

In belgium though most of the rally cars run Toyo R1R's as they get a discount for running "Road" tyres and the rest run on BFG and Michelin cut clicks
