hi all can i gti 6 be turbocharged (low blow)
i like my six but miss the boost i had in my zr turbo
i would be on a budget so supercharging would be out of the question at 4k could by a nice turboed car for that

i was speaking to my mate who said can be done using rover t25 unit whih i have one in my shed lol

has anyone done this???
what do u guys think??
and is there anyone who makes the modified parts?

thanks in advance i haved searched but only found stuff about 8v liam Razz

speak to pug-performance m8 they will sort you with a good pric and send you in the right direction as they have just built a 400bhp gti-6 and the owner has 1 in his own 205

turbocharging a 306 gti6 or a rallye engine will cost far more than a Supercharger kit and fitting it yourself.

go buy your turbo car for �4k Razz

then wonder why some dude in a 306 is pushing you down the road/track LOL

doubt it!!! my 6 is slow compared to my zr

spec was high
2.1 arais forged pistons 86mm overbore
full engine rebuld
t25/28 hybrid
m series inlet
front mount ic
gizzmo msibc set at 20psi

in 300bhp region

Turbo conversions on these cars are nowhere near as good as a s/c. If �4k is out of your budget then you will find it extremely difficult to get these engines past 200 horses Thumbs up

prob leave as it is for now my engine on 111k on the 6 dont think if i got a s/c would last much longer without a rebuild

mabe in future if the 6 looks after me i like the 6 think it handles well and is deffo more reliable than my zr but my god the 6 is thirsty

If it has a full service history then what is there to worry about? That is considered below average mileage. The low boost conversions run on standard internals.

There are a handful of s/c lads who are running engines well past 111k with no problems, and Miles on the forum has gone past 260k with his standard lump.

Well, you can get away with around 1k and end up at 300hp. We have alot of people in sweden that has done it. Smile

would like the low boost supercharger set up but if i did it would be collecting parts over a year or so

can u still by the fitting kit? as the post i was reading about the kit was a few yrs old?

has got service history up till about 3 yrs ago but my mate reg serviced it just had new cambelt etc so no probs there

And what exactly have you done to your gti6 to see 300bhp?

Low boost would see 240-260.

No I haven't but I'm not talking power wise, I'm on about total cost/ballache. The general consensus on here is that the s/c conversion is better suited for this engine and is far superior in many ways.

You've got to ask yourself though if rich w was into cross stitching rather than cars and someone instead had developed a bolt on turbo kit for a Gti6, would everyone be poo pooing rotrex chargers..........

Short answer is no. The s/c is considered a better conversion, one example would be you get instantanious power compared to a turbo which has a less smooth delivery. There are a handful more reasons why it is favoured.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing turbo conversions, but hopefully someone who is more knowledgable on the subject can shed some more light as to why the s/c is the better option.

I'm aware of all the pros and cons off each, hence the fact my cars supercharged Wink

Not so sure about the rotrex conversions having more low down torque though?!
Its a bit of a miss conception that alot of people have about turbos having 'all or nothing' power deliveries that will destroy your gearbox. This may of been the case 10 years ago but nowadays a correctly sized and mapped turbo can really be quite smooth.
To the OP, if you have the ability/failities to make conversion parts yourself theres no reason why you can't turbo your car for a fraction of the cost of a rotrex kit. However, like everyone else says if your going to be buying all the parts you'll need alot of cash and a rotrex kit may well be a more sensible option.

Dp's kit wasn't particularly bolt on though imo thats why I discounted it, it still required aftermarket management and quite a few mods to fit it. Not to mention the fact that they're not in the uk, regulars on forums and didn't have there cars in magazines over here etc etc.
The dp kit wasn't that badly priced though a few years ago before the exchange rate went tits up.

just becuase a SC kit has been made for the gti6 and has been reliable, doesnt make it the "best" conversion.

i would sooner have a Turbo on my 205 than an SC, and i'm pretty dam sure for 4k it can be done and make much more power than 250bhp.

there are a lot of SC blinkers here,

dont get me wrong if a SC kit comes up cheap i will buy it, but i'm currently looking at turbo's too.

and fitting a t3 or t34 on a gti6 engine would be making around 300-330 on around 20psi

Davey from SOS has a 380bhp monster of a gti6 turbo in his 205.

if you want boost and cheaply get an 8v turbo out a 406 0r 605 in it, cheap 190-210 bhp

This conversion cost around 1k and it was like 320hp

And now he have got a real ecu management so 350-400 will be no problem Big grin

On the mi16 we take the pistons from 8v gti engeine and take off 2mm.

On my s16 im cosidering to take the pistons of a XU10J2 and take off 1,5-2mm to get the compression right.
