Yeah I must say I noticed that too LOL

Food for thought. I'll be copying your wheel choice too for the 888's I got today.

made a start this evening on the dry sump.

first of all removed the front bumper and scuttle panel for access.

jacked her up and got it nice and high on some stands then removed the oil cooler, pipes and sandwich plate, breather system and catch tank, alternator as that is a nice little setup that used to hang off the a/c mount so will have to figure something out there with the new sump.
dropped the coolant and engine oil and pulled off the sump.
I then locked the crank pulley out and removed the crank bolt, the large spacer gets thrown and replaced with the drive pulley for the pump. fresh locktite and torqued back up.

i also picked up a new drive belt for the system earlier today from our local belt supplier at work. They had a Goodyear belt on the shelf which was ideal.

pics to follow when i can get them to load..

    pictures!

    front bumper off

    old alternator setup

    sump off

new sump fitted and crank pulley drive fitted

    pump test fitted

alternator now bolts up under here, need to sort an adjuster still

next thing was to think about the location of the tank, i didnt want to put it in the boot because pipework is a pain in the ass so its going to fit infront of the gearbox in a cradle nr the nearside head lamp.

purchased new 19mm oil hose to replace the scavenger oil pipework on the sump

purchased some sheet metal to make it

updates this evening with tank location and fabrication!

    thanks :-)

this is where the tank is going to sit...

so a cradle to hold it was knocked up, tacked in place currently but will weld it all soon.

tank sits in like so, need to sort a strap to stop it falling out now.

The sump bud - longmans used to modify them ? I remember when talking to Richard that the sump baffles aren't all that - got to be worth a phone call at least Thumbs up

I don't really see a problem with the baffles? As from what I can see they arent supposes to do a huge amount as if the oil drains back via the scavenger pipe work it'll return to the tank and there's 10 litres already waiting to go! Plus the baffles wouldn't make a difference to oil pressure and that's the main idea for a dry sump is to have constant oil pressure that can not drop off

    making brackets...

all plumbed up now, turned the pump by hand to get the oil up around the system, then whipped the plugs out and cranked it over. got 2 bar on the gauge so everythings working as it should. when the engine is started pressure will rise up alot more and i might need to adjust it on the pump but before all that i need to get the coolant plumbed back in...

    its alive once again!!

oil pressure is holding a strong 4 bar from cold to 10 minutes running time.

click the pic for a video!

breather pipework is bodged so i could run it before anyone says anything!

got the alternator side of things sorted last night.

where it bolts into the tab sticking out the block an M8 bolt is required to screw into the thread available on the block, although the alternator hole is for an M10 bolt so abit sloppy and not ideal.

so i found a bush at work with an 8mm internal and 12mm external so i drilled the alternator out and fitted the bush which made it all sit nice and tight so the alternator got bolted back up again. Next was to sort an adjuster/second support so after a little bit of thinking i made this...
not an engineering work of art but looks smart enough and does the job it needs too.

all thats left now is the coolant system and blank off the breather outlets cause the dry sump is a sealed system.

Are you going to fabricate up some kind of guard for that belt? One stone flicked into the belt by a sticky tyre and it's bye-bye engine.

Yep belt guard will be sorted. One of the mowers we sell at work has a guard which will be ideal I think.

It's got to be worth at least call to Bret and ask the question ?

Or just ignore me and carry on dude Yes

    I'm not fussed either way

seeing as Mallory park trackday is only this coming saturday I needed to crack on and get the car sorted.

New Nissens rad and a new Baker BM stainless pipe arrived friday

went to merlin motorsport on saturday and spent waaay to much on shiny stuff...

samco pipework, alloy header tank, alloy catch tank, race spec brake fluid which should stop them boiling...

Purchased a set of hardly worn Dunlop slicks on sunday which came on a set of alloys, i took the alloy off yesterday at work and stuck the slicks on spare C5 wheels so i now have a set of C5's with R888's for road use, wet trackday and also when slicks are not allowed and this second set of dry slicks :-)

got the cooland plumbed in. still a few things to do proper, ie the breather bungs, ive got some proper blanking plugs coming from pug.

out road testing last night. still got the grill and a few other bits to square up before its finished but i needed to get a few miles under its belt before getting to close to the weekend.

    back in the garage afterwards
