Chosen preffered upgrade (at reasonable cost) is the Peugeot 3.0v6 Brembo 4 pot calipers, which bolt straight up to the 306 hub, and a different offset thicker disc, from a Citroen Xantia V6 of all things. A lot of people have issues with horrendous brake squeal using plain discs, and the only discs that dont squeal are the expensive 40 groove Tarox G88's. Its to do with the grooves cancelling out some harmonic resonance off the pads.... apparently!
A fellow bufty 306 enthusiast off the 306gti6 forum had a complete 4 pot conversion for sale, due to a change of plans, so knowing what his workmanship was like, i bit the bullet and scooted off into North Wales last night on a road trip!
This is what i collected.
2 x restored and rebuilt 406 Brembo calipers, freshly powder coated in red, with new pistons, and seals, and bolts/bleed nipples. The standard finish is black, but the red look so much better behind the wheels. Plus powdercoating will last much much longer than a coat of hammerite!
Andy also had a set of rear brake yokes powdercoated in the same shade of red so i bought those as well, so they will be the same colour front and back.
Also a new set of genuine Peugeot 406 v6 front pads
And a set of pad retaining pins and spring clips
Also a set of slightly longer braided brake hoses, covered in a clear/carbon colour coating, so they wont discolour over time.
The Tarox discs are only 5mm bigger in diameter, but they are a fair bit thicker and of course, look the bollox!!
All i need now is a dry day to get the old set up off, and start installing the shiny stuff.
I need a set of multi groove rear discs to make the back look the same.....
