I'm painting mine up crackle red (VHT Wrinkle), what primer are you using and do you need primer, a few guides I have seen say you dont need it.

I always use Acid Etch primer, a light dust coat, then 2 normal coats, then crack on with the Wrinkle paint.

I'd removed the exhaust manifold ages ago, nothing out of the ordinary in its condition, normal condition in fact for a well hidden bit of steel piping thats 12 yrs old..

A local firm to me, GB blasting do all sorts of media blasting from coarse shot, down to aluminium oxide and glass bead blasting which gives a good non damaging finish.

Ive had the manifold blasted and its come out like this.

A close up of the finish.

Genuine pug manifold to cat fitting kit..

And a couple of the manifold fitted to the engine, with new studs and lock nuts.

The heat shield (steel one) which bolts to the rear cam cover has also been blasted, and thats been painted this evening in VHT silver, i'll get that refitted in the morning.

Tomorrow will see the subframe /rack/ bottom arms being built up on the bench. More pics to follow.

I'm gonna leave it as is Kev, not a fan of painted manifolds. In time it will discolour with use like a new one would, if i paint it and it starts flaking off it'll drive me mad looking at it.

Just had a quick look on Servicebox, I think they are -

0355 68
STUD
M8X125 IM15 L32 E6

0341 22
NUT WITH BASE
8X125-11-17,5

6935 86
SELF LOCKG NUT
DIAM 6X100-5,5-10

I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got the wrong ones.

Thanks Stu.

Are the copper ones 'nut with base' or 'self locking nut'? Where are the other ones located?

Finished painting the steel heat shield that lives on top of the manifold -

Then made a start on the front subframe, which ive had covered up for the last couple of weeks.

Fitted the gear likage "swivel"?

Then tried to remember which way round the ARB went LOL

Fitted the overhauled bottom arms, having changed the direction of the ball joint bolts, fitted the Xsara VTS steering rack, using the OE Xsara ram "sleeve" that came with it as its almost perfect.

At the moment all bolts are nipped up, except the rack to subframe ones, the others will be tightened up on the car when the weights back on the wheels.

I lol at the close up of glass bead blasting. Laugh

It's something i'm so used to as all the last stage blade slots on the turbine are glass bead blast cleaned, everything else is ash blasted so i get all my blasting done FOC at work - never known anyone pay attention to the finish like that before. Laugh

Is there only one common grade of glass bead blasting?

As I think that may be a good way to go with my brembos

Got the inlet on this afternoon, however im left with 3 x plugs which im unsure of.

First one is on the same little bit of loom that connects the Map sensor. Am i right in thinking this is the "spare" plug that does nothing on the 306?

Next two are underneath the throttle body, the blue one is the PAS sensor if i remember? However where does the black one go??Dunno Dunno

How it stands this afternoon.

The black one is a spare, the blue is power steering and the last is a spare too.

Looks really smart, like mine did two years ago.

Well worth it mate, makes me smile every time I open the bonnet.

The rocker covers were painted by you or was it a paint job from a local shop?
