Gearbox is done, and put back on the bench ready to be refitted.

Befores....

Afters....

New driveshaft seals (Gen pug obv), clutch arm bushes and re-sealed endplate with new Gen pug bolts.

I've also stripped and painted the ARB clamps and driveshaft end fittings.

The trusty 61 plate works Toyota Avensis is now loaded up with oily old s**t, in the form of Subframe, ARB, engine brackets and front slam panel to go off to the Powdercoaters for 7am. Don't like early starts....Thumbs down

Amazing stuff!

Tbh I'm not sure if this'll be much help to you but here's a guy with similar amounts of attention to detail as you, might be worth a look for hints on stuff; http://www.sxoc.com/vbb/showthread.php?283826-Comprehensive-S14a-refurb

You and Petrol could go in to business together, or the mental home. I'm not sure which!

It's a new mount Uncle Albert yes. As for how much it was, do you want it in pre-decimalisation amounts, as thats what you're used to?

Its a Febi-Bilstein one from the usual factors, cost me £21 plus the vat old bean.Thumbs up

Had a half day from work today to go and have 2 teeth out at the dentist. Despite now looking like a dribbling stroke victim, i've padded round the garage, feeling sorry for myself doing the odd little job.

Alarm unit and bracket before..

After..

No befores of the ABS pump bracket, just an after..

Managed to get a rubbish picture of the passanger inner arch now ive painted it.

Thats all for today.

Lots of heavy duty degreaser, gunk, brake cleaner, stiff brushes and elbow grease to get the muck and ingrained crap off, then keyed it all over with a rough scotchbrite pad, cleaned again with brake cleaner.

Careful masking and removing brackets, speed sensor, etc etc, then dust coat of etch primer, 2 more heavy coats of etch, then 3 coats of silver metallic, and 2 coats of Upol laquer.

Then refit all the stuff youve taken off, change the driveshaft oil seals, refit the end plate and gearbox mount and jobs a good un.

Then explain to the wife why the tumble dryer in the garage is covered in silver overspray LOL!!!!

Last night and tonights fun activities involved rescue of the PAS cooler pipe which runs infront of the front lower crossmember.

Originally these would have been supplied with a light treatment of a greenish zinc spray by the look of it, yet after 13 years of been in direct line of road spray, salt, rubbish and rain water, they corrode like buggery.

Mine were dreadful, covered in rust, some really heavy in places, so instead of just binning and replacing (new ones are about £35 + vat), i attacked mine with the wire wheel in the grinder. Took about 2 hours of fun, as these are awkward bas**rds to work on, real awkward shapes.

My trusted rust removal friend...Thumbs up

Now this certainly left the surface rust free like so...

As you can see some minor imperfections where the rusts been eating away at it.

I gave the pipes a good 2 coats of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, then 2 coats of etch primer.

Now even through the etch primer you could see the pitting left in the surface so ive done the lower section with this stuff.

Ive used this stuff for years as its only very very slightly textured, so it covers minor blemishes up.

As its left this evening - have to wait 12 hours for the stone chip to harden fully, then i'll do the other upper surfaces then coat the whole pipes in satin black.

Powdercoating porn content!

Collected various parts from the Powdercoaters in Birmingham this morning.

Engine anciliary bracket and top engine mount extension, done seperatly but placed together for the pic.

Front anti-roll bar, now done in bright red.

The entire front panel was generally grotty. Finished in the original satin black, it had lots of surface corrosion, so ive had it done gloss black, same as Carls (mech repairs).

Lovely finish now.

Final bit was the front subframe, now this was nasty before, lots of rust and scabby horrible bits, again, finished from new in a dust coat of satin/matt black, ive had it all acid dipped, sand blasted and powdercoated in gloss black.

Almost too nice to refit under the car now - the only person to appreciate this will be the MOT tester Big grin

Xsara VTS phase one steering rack to be overhauled next,,Yes

Yip, a little bit quicker, and with the gti steering ram fitted, it has the same RH lock limitations as well.

Cheers guys for the comments. I asked the wife if i could keep the newly done front panel in my daughters bedroom, and got a stout "f**k off", so I took that as a no.....LOL My daughter said yes though! PMSL!

Got the subframe support "cups" out of the Deox-c this evening, cleaned all the crud off, etch primed, and painted and laqured. Another item thats almost unseen, but in keeping with how its all going, needed to be done.

All reminds me of when I did mine a few years ago, still to this day it looks great, if your anything like me you will have been a kid in a sweet shop when you went to collect the parts.

Keep up the good work.

Oh and I do have some of those stickers, been out thrashing the rallye this afternoon and found them in the glovebox
