WTF? Is this like open house - see how much s**t matt can buy for his resto? LOL

No thanks Carl. Brakes will stay untouched for now. If i do bite the bullet it would be for AP's again i'm afraid, but my car needs £1500 worth of brakes like i need a 3rd armpit at the moment.

Ha ha, I was only messing fella. They do look good but at the moment the ones on the car will suffice.

Tonights seen a bit more tinkering in the garage. The anciliary brackets now been fitted to the block along with the PAS pump. As i'm going to the rallye Aux belt set up, can someone confirm if its fitted in the right place?

The Gti tensioner is fixed with 3 x bolts, does the Rallye just fix with 2?

And does it adjust this way?

One last question - where does the other fixed tensioner go??

Somewhere about here?

One shot of the PAS pump now its re-fitted.

More updates soon.Thumbs up

Quick technical question.

The heads come back from my local usual machine shop, had a very very light skim to make sure everything was true, can someone confirm that ive timed it back up correctly?. Cant see how it can be any different tbh as the cams are now pinned, as they where when i took the head off.... its just i have tapper paranoia now!LOL

Also with the cams pinned, i never took any notice of the position of the valves before (silly me). Is it right that id have the inlets open on the 2nd piston (from belt end) and the exhausts on the 1st piston open (again from cambelt end)?

All correct, I like the way you have marked the pulley inlet cam lol, the pullies are identicall. Just watch the valves as you manoeuvre the head onto the block, other than that, job jobbed.

There is a set position to put the cams too when fitting the head so there is no risk of catching those valves you got sticking out!Wink

You then pin the cams once the head is bolted down in positionYes

Cams and valves have all been out, inside the head is immaculate. Had new stem seals fitted at the same time as a precaution.

Mei - litterally the lightest skim imaginable, the head gasked hadnt gone or anything, purely a precation whilst the engines apart - and its in the garage now being cleaned and painted as you'd expect!!

New cam seals will be here tuesday so they'll be changed of course.

Kev - we're gonna be mega careful refitting the head, you know what a tart I am!

Had a fairly lazy easter, spent loads of time out and about with the kids and Mrs Evans, however had a good few hours on the shed tonight.

Got the block prepped for the head to go back on, genuine Pug headgasket and 10x headbolts

Got the head on and torqued down to the recommended settings, got the top cambelt cover fitted, cam covers on and coil packs in and reconnected.

Then refitted the gearbox (only held on with 2 bolts, rest are being plated at the moment), aligning the bearing/clutch arm was a pig but went ok in the end.

Thermostat housing needs attaching properly, as im waiting for 2 hose clips from Pug. Cambelt needs tensioning properly as well.

Exhaust manifold has gone for bead blasting, along with the heat shield that fits above it, should be back the end of the week. Picking up the 2 x o-rings for the servo pump from Pug tomorrow, along with 2 x cam seals.

Getting there slowly.....
