I have a spare engine which "might" be rebuilt to a naughty spec for future use in something else. That one I could really go to town on. ________________________________________ 1999 Astor Grey GTi-6 OEM+ (now gone...)2004 Aegean Blue 206 GTi 180 (also gone...) 2006 Skoda Fabia vRS in Sprint Yellow honestly3k wrote: Do you wrestle for a living matt? Anyway, when Kevin (the internet bully) leaves me alone, i'll update this thread with pics.! Tonights activities centred about refurbishing the Alternator, and rebuilding the wishbones with new P-bushes and Ball Joints. Painted the wishbones up, nice gloss black. Picking some more stuff up from the powdercoaters tomorrow, and am awaiting some stuff in the post to rekindle the zinc plating solution, then i can get plating again. ________________________________________ 1999 Astor Grey GTi-6 OEM+ (now gone...)2004 Aegean Blue 206 GTi 180 (also gone...) 2006 Skoda Fabia vRS in Sprint Yellow honestly3k wrote: Do you wrestle for a living matt? dan86 wrote: What finish are you going for on the exhaust manifold? Im having the manifold glass bead blasted, that way it will be a uniform satin, new looking finish. I have enquired about having it coated, Zircotec ceramic coating was gonna be around the £400 mark, simply too much money at the moment, and no real visual benefit as its hidden down the back of the bay. Wrapping the manifold looks crap imo, and normal exhaust paint wouldnt last 5 minutes. Fingers crossed it comes back, A.) in one piece and B.) looks good! A local trade blaster is doing it for me. I would say having it blasted will be a great finish. I used a wire brush in a drill to de-rust mine before polishing and it came up to a nice satin silver. ________________________________________ |

Refitted the servo pump with new seals and the thermostat housing and sensors. Then refitted the de-rusted exhaust manifold studs, new genuine Peugeot gasket and spun the new manifold studs on Next up was the alternator. The one on the car worked spot on, and it seemed a total waste of over £100 just to fit a new exchange one on, and id even spoke with my local alternator place about a cosmetic overhaul, and that was going to be £70, SO, i bit the bullet and tried to tart mine up. Before.. So i spun the pulley nut off with the rattle gun, spent a hour feeding masking cloth inside the vanes and cracked on with the etch primer. After that, i gave it 3 coats of silver, 2 of clear laquer and zinc'ed up the pulley and smaller fixing bolts. Looks ok (ish) - main benefit is, its cost me nigh on bugger all and its well hidden down the front of the bay. Afters.. I then refitted the alternator, tapped and cleaned all the threads out for the rallye pulleys and tensioners, and removed the excess powdercoat off the brackets, so the pulleys sat level. Genuine rallye belt (obv!) Then tried the belt for size, not fully adjusted up yet as the timing belts still needing tensioning, just to see if it all fits. Spured on by the fact that i'd got this far today without making too much noise in the garage, i turned to the wishbones that had come off the car. P bushes were cracked and the boots were tattered on the riveted in ball joints.... always sign of quality NOT! I ground the rivets out and removed the ball joints and cut the P Bushes off with the grinder as well. mrs evans was well chuffed about the stench of burning rubber wafting into the kitchen!!! I then fitted new P-Bushes and a pair of new bolt on 18mm ball joints, gave them a lick of paint and tadar!!! Put the safely to one side and started to have a look at the steering rack swap. I have aquired a Phase 1 Xsara VTS rack which i intend to refurbish and fit to the 306, after swapping the steering ram and pipework, all ive done today is get the track rod ends off the Xsara rack and thats is. I'll do more tomorrow. More updates soon ________________________________________ 1999 Astor Grey GTi-6 OEM+ (now gone...)2004 Aegean Blue 206 GTi 180 (also gone...) 2006 Skoda Fabia vRS in Sprint Yellow honestly3k wrote: Do you wrestle for a living matt? nuts should be on the bottom of the wishbones darzmat, all XU10J4R's and RS's have the adjustable pulleys, the earlier design is a 3 bolt affair the later as pictured just a single bolt. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
