That looks lovely Matt. Nice to see some progress.

I like the attention to detail with de-rusting and plating the bolts.

Not done much over the last week, suffering with a lack of enthusiasm tbh. However, i did the odd little job.

Collected a new genuine Peugeot lower engine mount to replace the horrible Baker Group N one i fitted a while back.

Fitted it into the refurbed housing.

(shown next to a standard spare mount)

I then tried an old Vauxhall modding trick of filling the voids in the mount with RTV sealant. Aim is to make it a tad sturdier than a standard mount without it being as awful as the Group N. As to if it works, who knows LOL.

Reffited the mount to the block, locktited the bolts in and moved onto prepping and painting the slightly scabby battery box support.

before....

after....

Not much time to do stuff till after the New Year celebrations, so i'll update as and when.

The postman was here early today with a parcel from Rich_W at Lynx.

I decided to invest in a billet alloy bottom pulley, and bugger me, aint it just a work of art?

Quality if fantastic, almost a shame to bury it down inside the engine bay.

Yet again fantastic service from Rich.Thumbs up Thumbs up

Soon to be show queen. It's fantastic how much effort people are willing to put in to restoring these Gti6's.

I wish i'd got the enthusiasm to get it done asap - at the moment (as t3ora - Rich) knows its sat on the drive looking a sorry state. Too cold to keep lying under cars at the moment.

As for the cooler, as i wanted to keep the front fogs/twin fans and working a/c i had to mount it in front of the LH fan, meaning quite a bit of butchery of the front bumper and bumper grill.

When it goes back together, it'll be mounted behind the drivers fog light area and the lamp removed. Look at the way Rich-W has mounted his (pics on here somewhere) and you'll see how much neater it is there.

Other alternative is to lose the A/c and the twin fans, run a seperate SPAL type fan and mount it in the acres of room you'll have behind the bumper then.

It's been a while since its been updated and thats mostly because i'd lost all interest in the car. Its sat for nearly 2 months without being touched, so thought i'd crack on this week, and to be fair, having a break from it has done me good.

I'm looking forward to getting this back on track now.

The stage i'm at is, the engine bay is now gutted, engine, box, subframe, rack and anything else removable, has been removed.

The block is now fully assembled, with clutch and flywheel on it, Heads gone off to the machine shop to be checked and faced up if needs be, and i've been tinkering with the anciliaries.

The gearbox has been refinished and i'm just waiting for the new endplate Torx bolts from Pug on Monday, then I can get pics of that up. New Driveshaft seals have been fitted along with Pug clutch arm bushes.

The Subframe and Steering rack have been seperated and the years of grime and s**t cleaned off with the pressure washer. The rack will be replaced with the Xsara VTS one I have had for a while, once its been refurbished with new rack boots etc etc. The Subframe and Anti-roll bar are going off to Bournes Powder Coating in the week, the subframe being done in Gloss Black, ARB in Gloss red. Whilst over there, im dropping the front panel in to be done in Gloss Black as well.

I need to give Carl at Mech Repairs a shout about the slam panel stickers as well.

I have a contact waiting to glass bead blast the exhaust manifold in the week as well, should get it nice and clean without going to the lengths of having it ceramic coated - I looked into that and £400 was just too much tbh, and you cant see most of it anyway!!

PAS pump has been fettled (one of the few bits ive got finished pics of LOL)

Before

After

I should have the Gearbox finished tomorrow night so i'll get pics up of that then.

Alternator is next up, it works fine but looks shabby. Any ideas?

Started making an effort on the inner wings, arches and engine bay metal work today. Only had a few hours but the weather was good!

First job was removing the air con pipes, and PAS cooler pipes from the crossmember. Removed the PAS fluid tank as well. I removed the main engine loom away from the inner wings, to get a look at the state of the metal work. Like most 306's there was surface corrossion on the lower inner wings, but nothing that couldnt be sorted easily.

So, i got the wire wheel in the grinder and attacked each area until they were back to bare metal. No holes or any nasties were found.

I then did 3 coats of Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80, and left it to dry whilst I went off for lunch...Thumbs up

Come back this after noon and painted on 3 coats of zinc primer / undercoat. Once i've painted the areas body colour, i'll flood the front sections of the chassis rails with the Bilt Hamber cavity wax.

Ive only done the passanger side for now, next job is front lower crossmember, then the drivers inner wing.

How it looks this evening.

Also removed the subframe mounting cups from the car, i'd read about them being troublesome but they came off fine.

After my gearbox end plate trouble, I managed to get it straight again, derusted with the wire wheel in the grinder again, etch primed then painted in a light stone chip paint to give it some texture. Then 3 coats of satin black to finish.

More tomorrow.!Thumbs up
