There you go, probably that. Those top mounts give 1.8 degrees of camber, just been out and measured.________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

Well I've got a siezed rear caliper, how fantastic. I'll order up a couple of refurb kits from BrakesInt but they're out of them at the moment. I dug an old caliper out of the shed which had a non-working handbrake. Hard to imagine, it's in such good condition. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

Tonight was full of win.First up, I fitted some rubber boots to the killswitch to make sure there wasn't a (repeat) chance of me accidentally shorting the terminals to earth (again) with some kind of keys (that's what happened) or similar event. Safe. Next up, time to secure the battery so it's not flying around as it is at the moment. I'm not up for any of this £30 aluminium cage nonsense, we can do better than that. Four little tie-down loops from eBay, about £6 for the lot. M6 bolts through, nyloc's below. Varley recommend some closed-cell foam to stop harsh vibration, luckily have some of that from the packaging my toolbox came in. Cut to size. Finally, fit the battery with some loading straps. Practically zero weight, solidly held and nothing too permanent. Nice. And then all wired up with rubber boots so nothing shorts. I also realised I had a brand new non-aircon heater matrix in the old heater unit, so if anyone wants that I'm open to offers. A mate had a spare pair of working calipers, so I've put those on the rear for now while I refurb mine properly. Took the car out for a spin, and after a bit of getting used to the pedal, and a bit of fiddling with the bias valve, I can unsurprisingly declare: these brakes are truly awesome. I got the pads up to temperature a few times with some heavy braking, and they really are incredibly good. No massive surprise there, but it's good to know they do what they're meant to. Bring on Rockingham on the 26th ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

I love your no nonsense aproach to things! There doesn't seem to be a problem that you can't overcome with some simple butchering and swearing at it. .Looks like a proper fun track weapon. ________________________________________ |

It would appear so, those bluestuff pads are awesome once you get some heat into them, but I think on roads you simply cannot get them warm enough to work properly. Also, this expensive brake fluid lark car FRO. I had cheapo £3-a-bottle crap in there and it's absolutely fine, didn't boil it at all never mind how much I hammered it. Engine didn't overheat, oil stayed below 100 all day despite it being a hot day. The exhaust's very much on its way out, time for a Jetex methinks. I filled the car up in the morning and again before I left the track, so between the drive there (90 mins), track time and the drive back maybe a tank and a half? ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

Snetterton's awesome, really enjoy the new layout. You can get a really good flow through it once you get used to it. Did Rockingham today, which is always a bit of a weird one. It was wet this morning, and for the benefit of anyone who's never been there in the wet let me tell you what they do. When it's wet, a man goes outside and scrapes up all the tarmac and replaces it with glass. Once that's done, they buff it to a mirror shine with one of those floor polishers they use in supermarkets, before letting all the cars loose on it. It's genuinely ridiculous, people spinning off on sighting laps, Caterhams all over the place like p*ssed flies, and it's just understeer central in a FWD car. I didn't really enjoy the morning, but it soon dried up and I got a chance to give the car a battering, which it loved as ever. One of the top mount bearings is knackered, so that's great news. Oh, and I nearly hit a wall flying through pif-paf like an idiot, swinging the arse of the car this way and that. Had a bit of a moment and ended up stopping about a foot away from some armco. Which could've been interesting. But still, it went better than it did for this poor guy and his son. I'd been talking to them in the morning, really nice couple of guys. They were fine, but I nearly cried when I realised which car it was that had caused the major red. Out of all the shanty ten-a-penny Caterhams and Westfields and bullshit cars, it had to be the 106 Rallye didn't it. This happened about 4pm, didn't really feel like going out much after that. I was then due to meet up with Chris Harris, got myself a nice frock on, had my hair and makeup professionally done, and what does he do? Stands me up, the bas**rd. I hope you enjoyed staying late at work Christopher, you just missed out big time and will now never get to see the special panties I bought. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |
