Cracking write up and car looks great Top work mate Can you let us know how you find the snow socks? Am I right in thinking you will only be able to do about 30 mph on them, just a "get you home" measure? ________________________________________ Chris1999 China Gti6 Supercharged [Fun car] >>Project Thread<< 2000 Bianca 306 Diesel [Work runabout] |

Cheers!cjm_harris wrote: Can you let us know how you find the snow socks? Am I right in thinking you will only be able to do about 30 mph on them, just a "get you home" measure? Well it says they're rated for up to 50km on mixed snow/tarmac so they shouldn't instantly fall apart. But they do recommend you stick to using them when you're on solid snow & ice. Not had cause to use them yet - so far, I'm walking everywhere as it's less hassle! ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. Mini-update: Chucked it in for its MOT this morning. Passed - and no advisories! So that's exactly one year on and 6451 supercharged miles. ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. So much for quality workmanship! I was sat in traffic the other day and noticed the coolant temp getting slightly higher it normally does (approaching 100*C).. It seems I was down to one rad fan & I'd lost low speed mode. I wasn't sure what I'd prefer - that it should be the fan itself (£££) or the wiring (which has had a lot of time spent on it already during the build). Good news/bad news is that it's the actual fan that's at fault, which means it's lasted all of 1 year before conking out I have removed the offending item and now need to find a replacement. I'm torn between getting a £55 one from CBS (which they say is actually made by a good manufacturer, top quality yadda yadda but looks pretty much like the ebay jobbie above) or a proper SPAL fan which is more like £160 but comes in "long life" flavours! Obviously the SPAL prices seem ridiculous, on the other hand I'd rather not be spending £60 per year every year on replacement fans! Buy cheap, buy twice - or are SPAL just mugging people? ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. I've now sorted a replacement. Ironically* I found SPAL units being sold at much more reasonable prices from RadTec (who built my IC & rad package!) I should probably have bought fans from there in the first place! * OK I'm not sure this is ironic, can someone ask Alanis Morissette? ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote. Which one was your spal fan from RadTec Mike?I've tried looking at the part numbers and they all appear to be spal fans under the 10" section. ________________________________________ Goldie the track car. |

The CBS fans are actually really good quality, they're pretty much identical in design to the SPAL you have there, we use 'em on the buggy (rather ironically, replacing a pair of straight bladed SPAL fans which weren't much cop...)________________________________________ - Bespoke rollcages/additions/adjustments. Keep up the good work Thanks very much! In fairness, when I started on the build I had only really done things like servicing, brakes, etc. nothing too hardcore. By the end of the build, I was amazed at how readily I would dive in to do things that I know would have scared me before - all about confidence, I guess. There's another update to Project é soon... here's a teaser. ________________________________________ Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch....Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote.
