I've decided that my 6 is going to be put on the odd track day and the standard suspension just won't cut it. What are my options for a suspension all round for around

just get some decent adjustable shocks and decent springs , hybrid anti roll bar, solid mounts, and new wishbone bushes.

you already started a thread before iirc about what to do with car.
use the search feature, it has endless amounts of information.

I'm just setting that amount the suspension, budgeting elsewhere for the solid mounts and wishbone bushes ect. Gonna buy the parts all through this year and then when I change the engine it is having a total overhaul!

Personally I think coilovers for a car mainly used on the road, are a waste of money. Fixed damping set by someone who knows what they're doing FTMFWYes

Agreed, coil overs are great because of the adjustable ride height and the fact that you can buy a spring in any load rate required. The problem is for the road or trackdays you are going to set it up on what came with the kit and leave it. I have Gaz dampers with Eibec springs and they have been fine on the track. I am sure I could go faster on race suspension but I'm on a trackday for fun not to gain tenths of a second.

Keep your eye on the for sale section. You'll easily find some for that money.

As some of the guys say, keep an eye on the FS section as well as other places as I've just picked up some GAZ Golds

Yeah, that is a good point. I'm not going to be going mental on the track so a tidy set of standard dampers and springs should do me. See what is available in the FS section once I actually get round to sorting the back end out!

I might have some Gaz's for sale in a few months, not coilovers though.

The difference between 10 year old standard suspension and a complete new standard suspension is significant. I refreshed all components with OEM and the car drives like new and handles any corner at any speed.

Absolutely - mine was refreshed (with OEM) shortly before I bought it, and handles excellently.

Not sure about "any corner at any speed" though - you must be a better driver than me iplay Wink

Totally agree'd !
Well maintained standard components first and driving training is defiantly the way forward IMO.

Invest in an oil cooler also !

That doesn't answer the question though...

I run B8/Eibach springs paired with Gaz Adjustable on the rear.

Having throughly tested both current and standard setups on on around 1000miles of track work alone, I can happily say the difference is outstanding.

Coilovers are great, however because of the rear axle design adjusting the ride height is a pain, making it very tricky to setup the wedge/front to rear weight bias. Something I was not prepared to play around with, however significant effect it may make.

Yeah been looking into an oil cooler for when I rebuild my engine, are they are must for tracking it? Will have to get a set of track wheels which I can stick on with track tyres hopefully.

An oil cooler is not a "must" for the odd trackday, buy some decent oil maybe a fullysynth 10w 50 to keep temps down before committing to a cooler obviously this is al open to discussion but i found a major difference when i stuck decent oil in the car, i have now fitted and oil cooler but my caris purely for trackdays so.... just my 2ps worth!Wink

Thanks for that Jeffers, useful advice.

I'll be putting a fully synth oil (not decided on weight yet) before my next trackday (Cadwell with trackaction, 26 March).

I'll see how temps are looking then - they seemed okay (got warm-ish at the end of each session, but not too bad) at Mallory.
