Just been out to the car only to find some thieving ‘persons’ have broken into the car, stolen the seat frames, brake bias valve, battery, electrical wires, fuse. When the removed the bias valve they damaged the piping and left a nice puddle of brake fluid + the scratched the paint work breaking off the lock !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and breath) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They must have come well prepared with spanners, screw drivers, alan keys, cutters etc.

Just when things were going so well. This is a big set back and is making me think again about how I can secure it.

The car certainly dirty since the CSI lot have been dusting for fingerprints - that stuff gets everywhere!

When the police asked if I had some photos showing the parts they did not expect me to have an album full lol

I’m back!!!

I’ve spent the last few months sorting out more suitable storage for the track car and I’m ready to get back on with the project.

Been slowly but surely buying various engine parts, crankshaft shells, thrust bearings, oil seals, piston rings, head gasket, exhaust gasket, inlet gasket and some exhaust paste (see photos below).

Also bought I ‘slightly bigger’ part after my friend found me an offer I could not refuse...

Yes.. its another Gti-6!!!
As you can see it has low mileage, service history and in excellent working orderBig grin

Yes there has been some *slow* progress on the engine. Had a number of parts sent to me which were the wrong items so it has taken quite a few weeks to get everything together.
Plus it looks like the courier has lost my new engine mounts!!

I will try and get some photos up during the weekend.

As promised here are a few photos of the engine block being re assembled.

This month/next month we will be working on the head – just need to order more parts (the bits are getting more expensive Crazy ).

Slowly but surely it is going back together

We’ve had a couple of days off work so managed to get a few more things done on the car.

Firstly we bought and re-fitted the brake bias & seat frames (after they were stolen last year)

Next we cleaned up and painted the exhaust heat shields (as there is no cooling fan in the car I did not want any heat coming from the exhaust making it even hotter).
Before:

After:

And finally we moved on to stripping the head ready for skimming and cleaning (Ok maybe a little paint too Smile )

Even cleaned the back of the garage to accommodate the parts (and so I don’t lose any more)

Also found that my valve spring compressor was too small, so need to make a little spacer to help it out.

Couple of other parts arrived in the last few weeks:
Momo Hub (good eBay Bargain);

BakerBM Group N Engine Mounts;

Just waiting for lightened flywheel and alloy pulley to arrive from RichW (hopefully tomorrow)

Oh .. and the red car is now a CocaCola can! Wink

Had the lower group N mount pressed in (Feels a lot firmer than the old one)

1st clean of the head & valves today ready for it to be skimmed in a couple of weeks time.
Been ordering some new parts (timing belt kit and water pump) – made good use of the discount code for Euro Car Parts.
I have some holidays coming up so hope to get loads done (fingers crossed).
