very nice dude. I was thinknig though, wouldn't you be a bit upset if it took some damaged on track? After all you have done allot of work and i bet it be gutting to see it go to waste. Me personally would track a car thats had less money put into it. |

I know what you mean it is a labour of love and I would be "upset" if it was crashed (or falls off the trailer on the way to the track), but at least I will have something to show at the end rather than spending it all on alcohol and lap dancers (well there again it might have been cheaper...lol) ________________________________________ Peugeot 306 Gti-6 Track car (soon to be supercharged)Project page Blog |

Jobs completed over the Easter break :- Fit the rear beam to the car (had to adjust the ride height as it looked like a 4x4) - Fitted some brackets and pipes in the engine bay (once painted of course) - Assembled the front struts with top mounts and new thrust bearings - Formed the rear brake lines - And excessive amounts of alcohol drank! Currently waiting for the new wheel bearings to be pressed into the hubs. Ordered my roller bearing P-Bushes from Rich-W. Once they are here we can complete the front suspension and have the car back down on its wheels (it’s been a while). While we are waiting for some suspension bits we have started to strip some external parts off the engine. It looks awfully confusing all those wires and pipes but I am sure it will make sense at the end (if not wait for my post ‘looking for a new engine’ - lol). Before Starting work: Wires Removed: All main external parts removed: Now I need to make a list of what we are going to do. Received a set of wishbone bearings from Rich_w yesterday and they look very nice Just fitted them to the wishbones with the new ball joints, hopefully fit them to the car this weekend (weather permitting) At the weekend we also tried a bit of ‘soda blasting’ on some aluminium parts (just like normal shot blasting but with baking soda). It’s a little less abrasive and it is easy to clean off, which will be good for some of the engine parts such as the inlet manifold. This is the lower mount from the engine and the end result was not too bad… Before: After: Just need some paint now. Sorry for the quiet period it has been a combination of waiting for parts and being away at various places for the past few weekends. Before we start to work on the engine in full earnest we are finishing other ‘smaller’ jobs around the car. So now that I’ve got all the calliper repair kits we finished assembling the front and rear brake callipers. Did not take too long to put back together, although that hand brake assembly is a bit fiddly !!! Need to get the system bled in the next few days, then fingers crossed it will all work 1st time. I’m Back! Sorry for the long delay in my posts, I have been buying a car trailer so my budget was blown for a few months + I have been working on a website (enough of the excuses) I have done some work since the last update. 1. Fitted the front suspension 2. The brake calipers have been fitted to the car (and there are no leaks) 3. Stripped down the engine block (have a question about the shell’s later on) 4. Painted the block with some black paint 5. Cleaned up the oil sump Now for some pictures… Now for my question regarding the crankshaft shell’s. When I removed then I notice they have coloured marks on the side, one is black the other is red. From what I understand the Black signifies a non standard size – ie repaired crank. Does anyone know if this is correct? And what size they are /or where I can purchase these shells from? I am going to pop through to Peugeot tomorrow to see if they have any ideas (they were pretty helpful last time). they're specific to Peugeot sizing, if you have a look at servicebox it shows you the size of the bearing with the corresponding paint mark.what they did was use a common size top shell (black) and varied the lower shell to adjust the bearing clearances (red) my engine was green. if there is no wear or damage to your crank then you could buy the same bearings again, checking the running clearance with plastigauge as you assemble them, if any are out of tolerance you'd need to see how much and check whether another bearing would close up the running clearance. aftermarket bearings will only come in one size. just a note on the rear calipers, I think you may have the pad carriers on the wrong sides, you'll notice one edge where the pads go in is wider than the other. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Just read it through from the start, nice project really tidy. Just one thing though, I wonder how much all that paint you've added weights? |

Thanks for the replies Yes all that paint must weigh the same as the stuff I’ve removed lol Just been to Peugeot today and found that the cost of new shells is a fortune (around £200) and they are not sure they are the correct ones as there are 2 maroon coloured shells! I think I will try and find a local engine builder to get some advice on what else I can do. ________________________________________ Peugeot 306 Gti-6 Track car (soon to be supercharged)Project page Blog |

I used J4R big ends Stu, as advised by Sandy Brown, he's used them in race engines without any isses.Should have mentioned that earlier sorry! They are £25 a set for the big ends, also the J4R mains are half the price of the RS ones at around £5 each, they're the same as the S16 engines. probably looking at about £115 in total. maroon coloured marks would mean the following shells; 0113 L1, CN INF EP 1,877mm MR - MAROON SMOOTH, £12 each ! which if you didn't need oversize you could replace with; 0113 H5, CN INF EP 1,877mm RG - RED - INJECTION XU10J4R SMOOTH, £4.22 ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |
