wiring ninja update......

HALP!!!! Inspiration tape shortage! Shock forgot to pick up more Doh

VSS connector to add and a ring terminal for the permanent lives, all done, fingers crossed the two 306 multiplugs match the wallye pinout.

Will do Mike Smile

Small update - lower engine mount has been modified and the driveshafts have been cut, pinned and welded. Just hope they balance up ok...

No idea what the welsh wizard is up to tomorrow so I'm going to re-attach the inlet manifold and coilpacks, bolt the gearbox back on and mount it properly. Then will try the shafts for length after cleaning the buggers up.

Also have to move the business this weekend and remove a few more 406 parts. Busy!

Not putting a v6 into a 306, but thinking of putting one into my mi16, just to clarify the mL5 box only available from the coupe (not bothered about 6 speed box)

was gonna put a gti6 engine in it but they have a stupidly high antiroll bar which fouls on the exhaust manifold... same with hdi engine/turbo...

Looks good so far well done guys. Smile

No it came on saloons and estates too with slightly different ratios iirc. Has to be a V6 model though.

Not sure how the V6 will help on the ARB front tbh - the flange sits a bit lower than the 6 engine on mine at the moment. Can't you try a different ARB from a different car?

ahh so the manual box came in the std 406 too.

Obviously i want a manual box.

Seen as the 405 and xantia share a very similar chassis i was going to try get a complete xantia v6 as a donor and work from there only problem being i would then have to source a manual box... as i bet nearly all the xantias are auto with them being old folks cars! LOL

Welshpug says:
Start with the 406 as you have loads less hydraulics to worry about - no PAS pump for example. Also the Xantias are blinking rare.

You'll get more money for the parts off a coupe as well Wink

Update:

Clutch release arm is very nearly sorted (Another huge thanks to Ray at the Bug Barn for his brilliant welding). Inlet manifold and coilpacks back on, diff seals done, driveshafts back together, immobiliser changed over and i've chopped out a fair bit of the cruise control.

Be nice to have possibly the only 306 with cruise control Big grin

Another update:

Clutch arm is being a proper pain. Was beautifully lined up and working. Put the box back on the engine and engaged the clutch bearing only to find the arm clouted the thermostat housing. Then had a bit of mare removing the bearing from the clutch spring plate and didn't manage to sort the arm. Going to get it cut and welded to work better tomorrow.

Otherwise quite a few other small jobs completed. Shouldn't be long to completion - if the release arm had worked then it would have been running today.

Good to finally put a face to the name today Carl - thanks for dropping in. Although a bit loud that V6 sounds lush, I can't wait now!

By the way i've recently seen a dyno graph of a coupe D8 V6. Interestingly it makes the same torque as the GTi6 engine does at its peak, but at about 1500rpm Big grin

was it not possible to go the old trick of unlocking the ecu on removal from the 406 then cutting wires on the loom to stop it re-locking or have you literally swapped it all over so the imob works as it should.

Well we didn't cut the wires as we needed them. You can just take the loom off the ecu with the battery connected.

Anyway on the 406 you have to transfer the immobiliser across (and keep a key chip in the car)unless you get it unlocked by Ade off the 205 drivers or probably Rich_w on here.

Update:

Engine is officially in, wiring is connected, fuel lines connected, clutch arm sorted. Steering rack now has a normal 306 ram so I should be able to turn right. Got to sort the water pipes, subframe on etc etc...

should be able to move it at the very least in a day or so, possibly under its own power though very loudly.

Was tempted to try and fire it up earlier as soon as it was in and plugged up, but the subframe wasn't on so no bottom mounting and no cat connected let alone centre and rear box, might have been rather loud Laugh my ass off

Found a solution to the 406 Rad not having a thermoswitch insert that'll work on the wallye fans, just need to confirm whether the threads are M20 or M22 x 1.5.

this wouldn't be an issue on a gti6 as there is a brown temp sensor that you can use and leave the control of them down to the bitron fan control unit.

Little more involved than that - design, print and stick things from vehicles to shop merchandise graphics. Just bought a new Roland Soljet Pro 3 XC540 ex-demo for a great price so well chuffed - no more overnighters!

I've been fairly out of my depth with a few things done on the car recently - i'm fine doing pretty much anything bolting together etc, but fabrication is not my forte. I can do wiring as well, but that loom is a fair step up from what i've done in the past. Its kind of getting over the fear of screwing something up whilst trying to figure out what mei is trying to do at the same time. Been a slightly strange experience all told!LOL

Cool on the fans (see what I did there...)!!
How can I measure the thread?
