Is the original seatbelt we tied on still holding that engine? Laugh I was in the scouts but don't recall knot badges.

Coming along nicely, that wiring looks mega. If you need a sub frame to practice on/you mess yours up. I have one spare doing nowt.

Update:

Subframe is now welded up (big thanks to Ray at the Bug Barn for burning his fingers) and so is the crack in the exhaust manifold.

Driveshafts have been measured up and are at the local metal fabricators being chopped and sleeved. Using the 406 inners and 306 outers so I have ABS. Also getting a few ally spacers made up for the top mount and subframe.

Mei has finally been released back into the wild with the loom and his new gas soldering iron. I'm going to try to find some time to get the subframe cleaned up and painted and I also need to respray the inner wings. Very little rust in this car which is cool, just has a few scratches now.

Good to see you at the weekend, shame I couldn't be of more help Sad
Can't wait to have a race once it's done Razz

Edit: Pugmarshall: he is using an ML5T 5speed manual box from a v6 coupe. The v6 boxes are the only ones that fit that engine, the bell housing and bolt pattern is different to all other pug boxes.

Yeah its a ML5 gearbox. Uses cable shift but also a hydraulic clutch which is being converted to cable as well.

Thanks for popping over - need to get my grinder back though! Not much point having a race is there? Same engine and box, but you're carrying at least 200kgs less. Bet mine goes round corners better though Ninja

What G said, its f-ing huge and weighs a ton (10 more than the gti6 box, 15 ish more than a 5 speed BE box)

Weighs less than the 4HP20 auto box though Crazy

Cheers for the feedign Adam, say thanks to Lorna, was very nice Smile

Not sure i'm going to be about on saturday now though - have to get the paperwork sorted on my new printer.

Fairly unlikely it will be running i'd have thought - still have the clutch to sort, water pipes, a temporary fan solution, fitting the rad in and a few other bits and bobs.

Guess it might be in another 10 days or so.

did I? erm.... well I could have made it run.....

but it wouldn't have been drivable LOL just sat there going bwarp!

the main area that has held us back is that I live about 70 miles away, don't have my own car working, bloody snow, Adam bought an auto donor.... and erm, trying to do it without haemorrhaging cash LOL

in reality I think we've only worked on it for 4-5 days and at a fairly relaxed pace too.

the ML5T is the only usable box than can be utilised, no doubt a 6 speed unit from the 407 or C6 could be sourced (or put together as a hybrid of ES9 bellhousing and ML6 casing) but it'd weigh even more and limit steering lock, potentially might not fit under the chassis leg.

seeing as we don't want to touch the chassis its not a route I'd take, in a 306 or anything smaller anyway, as it is this Rallye looks like it will be able to turn right for once Laugh my ass off

Yay turning right FTW!
I've had to source quite a lot of stuff - to be fair it could have been chucked in as it was, but cambelt, resealing the cam carriers etc etc takes time.

Will be about most of saturday now Ash, so just give me a ring first Smile

Still have to figure out the rad fan switch as I'm loathed to pay

Not now - i've sold it LOL
Its very different and would cause issues with the alternator and PAS as they're close.

Will probably fit a dash switch for the time being until I can afford the revotec switch.

I remembered earlier one reason why the VR6 rad is used apart from them being a bit narrower and fit easier in a 309/205, they have the M20 hole to take a thermoswitch.

if I could machine stuff I'd make up a piece of aluminium tube with an M20 boss in it to go in the top hose, bit like the revotec one but to accept the standard switch.
