Very handy indeed. I would have done the RS engine on my own, but this something completely different.

Rad fan problem sorted - Pacet Thermostat Adaptors

32mm internal diameter with the OE 22mm switch option - cheaper than the Revotec system with no extra wiring needed Big grin

No 6 speed gearbox anymore so will have more room, although rack or at least the pas ram will have to be changed aswell in order for it to happen

Just ram I think.... anyway its changed over now so we'll see if it is just the ram thats needed.

If not then i'll hunt down a Xsara VTS rack cos they're quicker Smile

Yeah the ram does control the lock so you can just change that, might be better to do it now while the bed etc is off.

might have a standard 306 one will check tomorrow if you want, Xsara rack would be better if you can get one.

Thanks Carl - i've already changed the ram for a normal 306 one whilst its off the car. Got to create a feed hose for the PAS to the pump tomorrow, but otherwise i'll just be bolting the subframe on and creating the water circuit.

Once the water is on i'll try to start it. Fingers crossed!

Update:

Gearshift installed - needed to cut out more than I thought but ok now. Clutch cable stop point made, but might re-make it a bit better. Need to get the cable run sorted out, but the clutch seems to work.

Re-assembled the stuff on the subframe, but need a new steering rack gaiter so waiting to put the frame on until thats done.

Plumbed in the water system but not put water in yet as have to put in the fan pipe thingy.

Update:

New gaitor, Baker top mount, fan switch adapter arrived. Has to be moved to another unit on sunday so subframe will have to go on, shafts etc. Chuck the rad on the front and hope it works enough to get it on the trailer.

PAS (feed to the pump) and exhaust are the last things to be sorted.

sods law (AKA ITS Fecking French!) meant that the multiplug wiring from the R reg 6 don't quite match the S reg rallye, but it does spin over, and boy does it spin fast!!

these have a pretty beasty starter motor.

current progress, subframe back on, bottom mount modded slightly to clear d/shaft intermediate bearing carrier, transmission mount modded slightly to give more CV clearance.

RAD fan switch takeoff fitted.

PAS return pipe modified to clear exhaust collector pipe, feed pipe next.

Clutch cable was being an arse, self adjusting bit wasn't working for some reason, I think I have a manual one at hiome unused.

James205, there's a few using a cable on the clutch for these, its a case of fixing the clutch fork to the shaft and extending the shaft out through the top bush and fabricating an arm to suit, hence every one is different LOL

several are running a converter box from the cable to the hydraulic master cylinder, basically a box of levers, and I have heard of the master cylinder being fitted into a modified pedal box.

n/s driveshaft fitted perfectly, small issue with the length of the drivers side one to be rectified asap.

Beasty enough starter motor to rip the driveshaft out anyway LOL

So to-do jobs:

2x PAS pipes (1x pressure, 1x feed)
bas**rd f*cking clutch cable mother f*cker (know why its broken now Mei).
Sort out a bit of dodgy wiring (Razz)
Cut and reweld the shaft
Battery tray and general sorting out of things.
Exhaust cut and weld
Add water and wait for the bang.

erm... nope! Not a great deal has changed as far as photos are concerned tbh - the engine has moved slightly has a few wires and pipes attached etc

Will take a few tomorrow if I get time.

I have a feeling that this isn't going to get done for a long time now. Work has had to kick in and its looking insanely busy now until after May (can't complain about that mind!).
Although the more expensive option, another RS engine was probably the way forward as I really need another car now.

Very, very tempted to just cut my losses at the moment and break it Sad
