Photos will happen in due course.

Now waiting on 2x mounts and clutch-to-flywheel bolts. Then I can get the flywheel looked at to see if anything can safely be removed.

Will be:

Plugs, inlet and cam covers sorting out.
New cambelt and pump to go on.
Install the gearshift
Crank Seal
Might get the clutch fork sorted out.
Flywheel, clutch and box on, depending if the flywheel is back from the machine shop.
Might get some of the wiring sorted out.

Weigh some more things Smile

Yours?

How are you doing the clutch on yours? Could you just use the hydraulic clutch?

Only realy the wiring and a few small bits left to do on mine. Waiting to see how you get on with the wiring as we arent sure on it.

We are going to extend the current clutch fork up through the nylon bush and then use the GTi6 cable to work it. Fair bit to fabricate there Smile

Cool - sounds like you'll be running waaay before me then

Small update.
The GTi6 engine was fairly fubar'd. Head gasket had a pretty large hole (biggest Mei has ever seen - sheltered life Whistle) in it between the cylinders. One piston has very bad wear on the edge and there is about a 0.5mm deep groove in the head. Not sure if it can be saved tbh. Shame as its fine otherwise and the valves are all good. Any idea if it can be filled and skimmed?

Crank and camshafts on ebay soon...

Good effort on the headgasket, will be watching this project as always wanted to know whats involved with the conversion.

Is the piston above a gti6 one? It looks dished in the pic and the ones i have seen are flat top.

Yes its a flat top GTi6 piston - dodgy mobile photo i'm afraid.

Well... split the autobox off with torque convertor and flywheel, cambelt + water pump changed to the new type (coming off again to sort the cam cover leaks), split the old engine, fixed the 406 dTurbo gear linkage and changed over it wheels...

Not able to make a great deal of progress on putting it in due to no clutch/flywheel or mounts. Meirion wanted to do the wiring when its in the car.

Intresting about the clutch operation, I've only had a quick look but the main selector gets in the way and the angle of it is wrong really
