i tend to hoist the car in the air using 2 engine cranes and then drive it properly. i get someone to rock the car side to side to act as a cornering effect

    Exactly, it doesn't really seem possible does it. The tester literally gets in the car and drives it a few feet onto a ramp and then back off again. The only way I can see it is if they check it whilst the car is running with the driving wheels in the brake rollers. Yes

    But even this would only just about be registering on the speedo so not exactly accurate. Hmm

    New rules may mean they are now part of the test. Little things like these do get overlooked by some testers IME.

    I think it should be part of the test because without it working you cant try and keep to the speed limits which are there to protect the general public Smile

    Section 6.7 of the guide:

    Method of inspection: "Check the condition of the speedometer"with an RfR: "Speedometer incomplete, clearly inoperative or the dial glass broken or missing."

    I fitted my new vss the other day and the speedo has been fine ever since. I got it brand new from ebay, pattern part obviously and was about £14 iirc. 30 min job to change Smile
