well its money i will never get back, but im planning on keeping the rallye anyway, ive got a crank and oil pump for my first engine sorted out, and ive got a spare bottem end, and ive also got another head on its way, so basically i have 3 engines now, as 2 are standard and 1 charged, none run tho haha________________________________________ In my garage just now2003 BMW M3 & 2009 L200 Raging Bull & Audi Q5 S Line AX stock rod & Saxo Stock rod Sold the bike an charged rallye an bought a caravan, midlife crisis or what! |

Well i put my order in the day for pistons and shells and con rods with Rich, so hopefully be building this back up next weekend if im not away offshore. so im going to build a bullet proof bottem end, and if i do deside to go high boost it wont be to much trouble. there is light at the end of the tunnel!!________________________________________ In my garage just now2003 BMW M3 & 2009 L200 Raging Bull & Audi Q5 S Line AX stock rod & Saxo Stock rod Sold the bike an charged rallye an bought a caravan, midlife crisis or what! |

Just to clarify the failure mode here, it turns out Chris' pistons melted becuase he was using regular unleaded - 95 octane. This isn't nearly as stable, and doesn't burn as controlably as super unleaded like V-Power or Resco 99 octane. The result is detonation, and melted pistons as can be seen by the pics. So, all low-boost S/C users, please fill up with a high octane fuel like V-Power or Tesco 99 octane, as recommended in the installation guide. The problem is high compression engines like the XU10J4RS, particularly when boosted, will be prone to det if poor quality fuel is used, or they run lean, too hot etc. If you want to use regular unleaded [95 octane] I can supply some modified ECU software with less ignition advance [and slightly less power!]. Rich, i totaly acept the blame for this, as both counts was my fault, shit oil then wrong fuel, the kit is an excellant kit and i was very happy with it, so i recomend it to anyone, as long as they use good oil and the correct fuel.________________________________________ In my garage just now2003 BMW M3 & 2009 L200 Raging Bull & Audi Q5 S Line AX stock rod & Saxo Stock rod Sold the bike an charged rallye an bought a caravan, midlife crisis or what! |

Dont think i have used normal 95 fuel for around 5 years now, good that the fault has been identified hey Chris, removes doubt from the back of your mind ________________________________________ Just Drive It |

so if the right fuel and oil was used in the first engine then the money spent on the secongd engine could have gone on the high boost project?bummer but then im guessing you woudnt be looking at high boost if it didnt blow up? lol ________________________________________ tap tap....BOOM!!Now singing sweetly thanks to a fistful of cash and a friendly Rich_w! |
