Slight thread bump - can anyone help?
I have a Ph2 GTI6 I bought a while ago and was immediately taken with its performance - it went like a scalded cat. I bought another Ph1 6 and was disappointed that it wasnt as quick, and assumed that my first one had some funky cams or soemthing as it was very lumpy on idle.
Took it to have a cambelt replaced and its come back slower, the same as the Ph1
I took it to a specialist to have the belt done, who tells me:
"The timing pin holes to time it up were all pinned to start with and pinned again to fit the belt so as far as the timing goes its not been changed"
"before the belt is removed the cams and crank are locked and then the belt is replaced"
From reading this thread and talking to a mate who had the same thing, Im convinced the cam timing had been manually advanced as detailed above - Im not suggesting the mechanic has done anything wrong, but would it be possible to return the car to "standard" by doing the above??
To fix it, I guess its a case of rotate the cam very slightly again - is anyone confident enough to do this??
Please help - I spent more than I paid for the car soprting out the cambelt and suspension and its come back slower, particularly between 6-7K where it used to go apeshit.
