Quick update - got all the parts out, well pretty much everything and got an old screwdriver on the worst areas to chip away until I saw something that resembled metal

The bag that goes over the steering ram had seen better days so I'll have go get something to cover it over

The suspension components weren't too bad after all. The right side was worst than the left. The screwdriver came out again since I've not got a chisel small enough and removed loads of crap off the calipers and hubs
Before:

Caliper before

Covered in Kurust treatment

And finally painted and lacquered

Looking at the injectors I definately think its had a few too many jet washes in the engine bay. After removing them this is how they looked:

After about 10 minutes with some thinners and a brass wire brush they look a bit better now

I've also purchased a fresh looking subframe, ARB, and fuel rail. Thanks to Carl for these Thumbs up

After a few hours going round the engine bay with a rotary wire brush and sander I got it to look like this;

Got a few more bits cleaed and painted up:

Drive shafts haven't escaped either

After a good dosing with Kurust, the engine bay looked like this (had a go at primering the front to make sure there was no grease anywhere

Finally got the acid etch primer coat on:

Followed by a few coats of standard primer

Looks better once you get one colour on it LOL
In the process of uploading a few more pics with the final coats on.......

Acid etch, is that expensive primer ?

What use does it have compared to any other primer?

Very nice job there Wink

Cant remember the price of the etch primer, but I think it just gets a better bite onto the surface its sprayed onto. The only thing I didn't like about it was the fact it sprayed on like water which made getting into the hard to reach areas a pain Angry

Hats off to you sir, that is some impressive work. Cant wait to see the end product, you have a skill with a paint gun by the looks of it.

Decided to do it with rattle cans since the spraygun I did the car with is a bit big for getting into all the corners in the bay. At least the subframe and ARB will look at home in there now Happy

I thought mine was bad for rust! It seems these Rallyes are very poorly rust treated.

Its looking good now.

I certainly looks that way. When I've been painting the underside of the car there are a few areas where the underseal has split being so thin especially the corner where the floor raises up to accomodate the fuel tank.
As you know Carl its a nice feeling when you see the paint on Thumbs up

Little update - its been a busy last weekend and evenings all week. I managed to get some more bits cleaned and got started on the back end too. A few parts have also been installed in to the engine bay.

A few hours were spent on the gearbox cleaning all the old oil and dirt off before washing it down with some thinners and then applying some silver/aluminium spray
Result:

Got the hubs re-assembled and painted:

Fuel tank cleaned:

and the ABSpump

Looks like the back end is just as rusty as the front that damn Bristol air must be quite corrosive

At least my recovered P1 seats look nice ready to go in:

Really glad I've been taking photos so I know exactly where everything goes. I've replaced most of the bolts as I've been installing parts since the old ones were that rusty or just sheared off. The re-installation so far:

I've ended up painting all the brake lines since these were corroded quite bad in some areas. I thought I'd have to replace them but it luckily was surface only. It might be worth checking the outer edge of the corners since this tends to be a weak point in the protective covering they have when new. Its going to look like a rainbow under there if I carry on like this LOL

Looking great so far, is your driver's seat a bit wonky where the side bolster is on the left bit ?

Na been to check it - I think its the way the seats come out when the flash went off. There is a slight bit of creasing where your right shoulder would be if thats where you nean?

Yes it looks to me like there is a overlap at the top of bolster, if its too tightly sown it might quickly rip apart, hope it wont.
How much did it cost to get redone and where did you get it sorted ?
