sounding good mate, you will have to bin your standard exhaust manifold though as it will start to strangle it.

maniflow make a good manifold to the spec your engine needs, thats where im going to have my 205 one made. Smile

I know, I've already had a long conversation with the helpful guys at Maniflow, I'm having a resonator as well as a backbox so hopefully it won't be too noisy for quiet trackdays as I'm sure the induction noise will be mega as it is.

My lifters and springs arrived today, still waiting on cams but I have spent my evening working on the botton end. I've got all the rings on, the pistons are attached to the rods and in the block. Thats a nerve wracking experience tapping the pistons home hoping you don't snap a ring!

All together now and torqued up, thanks go to Mr Walker for dropping me in some replacement oil spray bars and bolts (Mine have gone walkies somewhere) you are a legend. Crank is in, rod bolts and main caps all torqued down, next up, attach all the ancillaries and sump and away with the head for machining. It's now 2 AM and I've had enough Razz

I'm not worried, everyone has failures, Piper have been around a long time and the chances are something else contributed to the failure anyway. Plus I can't get too hung up on every little chance of something going wrong or I'll never build the thing.

Well, I got my cams today, I have to say they look suitably mental for my purposes Devil Superman

I chucked them in and gave them a quick twirl just to make sure they don't foul the casting of the head anywhere, I have to say they are VERY close to the edges of the lifter bores but they do clear just fine. Absolutely no chance of the oil spray bars clearing though, they are going to need some serious pinching.

Anyway, heres a pic or three of what I've skinted myself on lately Roll eyes

Off soon to the engineers for new guides, and the seats re-cut.

As much as I would love a rotrex, N/A engine builds are so much better.

Awesome job.

One other thing I was pleased about was that the exhaust cam came with the slotted drive on the end for the vacuum pump, so my brakes should still work once this goes back together! Big grin

I will have a complete set of standard valves now for sale if anyone is interested? They have all been chemically cleaned and had the seat area ground by Owlesbury Crankshaft (I had this done before I opted to go for new valves for safetys sake) these will be just perfect on a standard engine and would be a cheap way of rescuing a tapper.

As QEP want

I now have the money I need to send the head away for machining, I also am having the valves back-ground at the same time. According to the engineer doing the work, his grind profile alone frees up 8% more CFM of flow from 2mm of valve lift, right through to full lift, well worth doing then I thought. He will also be doing some port work (This is mainy on the short side radius of the inlet ports as he and others tell me there is nothing much at all to be gained from working on the rest of the port) It's getting new valve guides, he'll shim up my valves and grind the seats. As the head is travelling from sunny Southampton all the way to Lincoln, and I'll be throwing some serious cash at the head I thought I better make a decent box to put it all in seeing the state of a bunch of smashed up computers in the back of a TNT van today has inspired me to make a good job of it...

Fingers crossed it gets there and back in one piece Unsure

Terrific work on the box- just a bit risky writing fragile on it as that rather issues a challenge to cargo handlers!
