Assuming it's like a standard ARB to fit then it's easily doable in a couple of hours.I fitted a GTi rear ARB to my diesel last year (when I was 18 - and I'm fairly car mechanic orientated, but not massively, I wouldn't touch a cambelt for example) and it's still fine, it made a creaking sound once so I retightened it and it's fine. ________________________________________ '99 306 Meridian TD with Bosch fuel pump - Cheap veg oil motoring'99 Xantia Activa turbo - not cheap veg oil motoring Goes around corners well though |

Two hours?! The last one I changed I had done from start to finish in arond 20 minutes, and that included fitting new seals. Even a novice should be able to do this inside an hour. ________________________________________ Rich |

Then get an M12 bolt and wind it in to one of the end plates so it comes of, then just pull the end plate on the other side and the whole bar will come out. Easy as that, 20 mins max. Look at nwphoto's FAQ for lowering the rear as it's included in the process ________________________________________ Now rollin' in a 182FF |

I did say "easily doable in a couple of hours" So that's to include someone who's clueless (such as myself). Although I think it took me about an hour to do mine, winding that m12 bolt took some doing though, the end plate really didn't want to come off. ________________________________________ '99 306 Meridian TD with Bosch fuel pump - Cheap veg oil motoring'99 Xantia Activa turbo - not cheap veg oil motoring Goes around corners well though |

Just paid full price over at Spoox : (but at least I get to play with this one soon : ) As said above, removing rear wheels and the end plates gives you access to the rear ARB fixing. ________________________________________ Spanner Monkeys Monkey SpannerForum Search Clicky |

I'm also interested in one of these. So if you buy this hybrid ARB nothing else needs to be bought to enable you to fit it to a standard 6? One of my plans was to fit one of these. But I'm a little confused as to why it's a different thickness each end(I've never looked at one). Why is it not made at say 28mm all the way across? Or is it that it'll only fit in one way?? Surely the effective diameter is really only 25mm?? Or am I missing something. And lastly, can someone who has one tell me what it's actually like? Is there a noticeable difference? ________________________________________ My old man wrote me a letter from prison once. Steve, it has to be a hybrid (to make it 25mm or whatever) as the sizes change in the trailing arms. So it will only fit from one side, otherwise you have to machine the trailing arm shafts etc IIRC.________________________________________ Seat Leon Cupra FR / 306 GTI6 / Breaking 205 GTI6 / Caterham 7 / Mercedes Sprinter 311CDI LWB Sold: Fisher Fury - Laguna DCI Estate - P1 306 XSI - E30 BMW 325i Baur Convertible - Daihatsu Fourtack - Suzuki GSXR600 - 205 Rallye |

And lastly, can someone who has one tell me what it's actually like? Is there a noticeable difference? As per Sean's reply, 25.4mm is the biggest that will fit one trailing arm, and 28.5 is the biggest that will fit the other. All but 14" (IIRC) are 28.5mm, making it effectively the equivalent of a 27-27.5mm ARB rather than the std 24mm. It will make a noticeable improvement to a std car and also works well if you uprate the suspension. It makes the turn-in better, whilst removing the roll induced weight transfer at the rear of the car. Basically it gives you controlable lift off oversteer. The first one was fitted to my own GTI6 about 5 or 6 years ago; I currently use a 30mm ARB on my race 306. |
