Assuming it's like a standard ARB to fit then it's easily doable in a couple of hours.

I fitted a GTi rear ARB to my diesel last year (when I was 18 - and I'm fairly car mechanic orientated, but not massively, I wouldn't touch a cambelt for example) and it's still fine, it made a creaking sound once so I retightened it and it's fine.

Two hours?!

The last one I changed I had done from start to finish in arond 20 minutes, and that included fitting new seals.

Even a novice should be able to do this inside an hour.

what exactly is involved in fitting one of these, kwick guide anyone? Ive rebuilt my front suspension, and swapped the rear shocks and beam mounts , but ive always hesitated messing about with the rear beam (lowering etc)... i assume from what youve said its fair easier than swapping torsion bars and beam rebuilds? and doable with the beam on the car?

cheers

James

Fitting is p*ss easy... basically take the rear wheels off, undo the smaller bolts holding the arb end plates to the trailing arms. Then get an M12 bolt and wind it in to one of the end plates so it comes of, then just pull the end plate on the other side and the whole bar will come out. Easy as that, 20 mins max.

Look at nwphoto's FAQ for lowering the rear as it's included in the process

I did say "easily doable in a couple of hours" Razz

So that's to include someone who's clueless (such as myself). Although I think it took me about an hour to do mine, winding that m12 bolt took some doing though, the end plate really didn't want to come off.

Just paid full price over at Spoox : (

but at least I get to play with this one soon : )

As said above, removing rear wheels and the end plates gives you access to the rear ARB fixing.

I'm also interested in one of these.

So if you buy this hybrid ARB nothing else needs to be bought to enable you to fit it to a standard 6?

Edit: Just read the original post Doh

One of my plans was to fit one of these. But I'm a little confused as to why it's a different thickness each end(I've never looked at one). Why is it not made at say 28mm all the way across? Or is it that it'll only fit in one way??Confused Surely the effective diameter is really only 25mm?? Or am I missing something.

And lastly, can someone who has one tell me what it's actually like? Is there a noticeable difference?

Steve, it has to be a hybrid (to make it 25mm or whatever) as the sizes change in the trailing arms. So it will only fit from one side, otherwise you have to machine the trailing arm shafts etc IIRC.

As per Sean's reply, 25.4mm is the biggest that will fit one trailing arm, and 28.5 is the biggest that will fit the other. All but 14" (IIRC) are 28.5mm, making it effectively the equivalent of a 27-27.5mm ARB rather than the std 24mm.

It will make a noticeable improvement to a std car and also works well if you uprate the suspension. It makes the turn-in better, whilst removing the roll induced weight transfer at the rear of the car. Basically it gives you controlable lift off oversteer.

The first one was fitted to my own GTI6 about 5 or 6 years ago; I currently use a 30mm ARB on my race 306.
