Got new map from Daveyboy uploaded today, runs a lot better now.

Carl took it for its MOT and it has passed Smile

I have 2 small problems with the Jenvey.

1) Backfires through the exhaust after lift off
2) Pops through the Jenveys on idle

Spoke to Omex they said to balance the bodies and adjust the map slightly.

Update

Omex have tweeked the 0% High engine Speed (Overrun) area.

They also said the Throttle Bodies will need balancing, hopefully this will correct the problems.

I wonder what Bhp increase I have?

Hopefully it will be near the 200 mark if not plan B will have to come into operation,

balancing in what way? you run a single cable to muli butterfly loop yes?

i've got a feeling it will be injector timingYes

and 0% overrun will mean harsher off throttle under load.

Sorry this is what Omex said

See the attached calibration. I have increased ignition timing in the 0%thottle, high engine speed (overrun) area. Do a File | Compare to see exactly what I have done. This will not affect the performance in any way.

The pops on idle will almost certainly be the throttle bodies needing balancing.

Best regards

It's pretty easy to Balance the bodies when fitting, this is a must before anything is done really or you will never know where you are with one side being different to the other. You can measure them to start and either listen by ear (Old timers method and best) of use a Balancer guage which Omex etc supply.

On the power front as said anywhere from 170 to 180 I;d say from experance (Rollers depending of course)
I;ve done a back to back, abit on a tuned Mi engine both came in with the same power and torque 185bhp (Cannot recall torque fiqure) but one had the std 6 inlet and the other 45mm bodies both mapped at Emerald.

Other silly point, De-cat and it passed the MOT or was this done with the CAT fitted?

Basicly one set of bodies is more open than thew other pair, you need to fiddle with the adjustment screw on the link mechanism between the two pairs of bodies. This is a bit of a fiddle but as Miles says it is vital. Get a foot of garden hose and put one end to your ear, then the other end into one pair of trumpets (does'nt matter which you start with as either PAIR are linked) listen to the sound between each pair of trumpets, if you alternate quickly you should be able to hear the imbalance. Adjust the screw until they both sound the same, if you have access to a carb balancing meter this job is a piece of p*ss, but good results can be had by ear if you are careful.

As for power, on a standard lump with just bodies you can expect something more like this...

Cat was back on for MOTWink

as for the problems, if watch the trumpets its popping in all 4 of them, so points to timing I would think?

All are balanced on a flow gauge?

will try the new map from Omex but ideally will need a tweak on a rolling road I would think?

All this just to get 180bhp seems a waste of time and a lots of money to me! My GTi-6 205 has 178bhp with the standard managment and inlet!

I would be happy with 180 Bhp for the moment until I have funds to do cams and engine work.

The supercharger gave me massive power but did not sound like a touring car so was pointless Smile

Touring cars didn't have throttle bodies to start with! Its just most owners have moved to them for the extra 3bhp you get.

Well, I got 5bhp, so much better value! For 260bhp+ you need to spend another £2k+ on the base touring car engine. Mainly headwork, but different pistons are needed too.

Well the tweaked map from Omex has improved it no end, no more popping back on idle.
double checked the balance today with a flow meter and its spot on.

think its got to go on the rollers for the final tweaks and it will be there as its still not 100%, its alot better than it first was but gone as far as I can really.

but cost-bhp is not good not unless further engine work is done, so get saving now DaveRazz

does sound good thoughSmile
