They use to be made of EN8D grade steel - and the ring-gear has been damaged on a couple of these.

To rectify the problem, they are now made from EN19T chromoly steel, and the width of the ring-gear has been increased too.

The EN19T has a significantly higher Brunel number than EN8D [it's much harder basically].

If you still have concerns, it can be heat treated to your specification at cost.

how much is it to heat treat one, I have one of the first ones and want it done, Jim was going to sort it out for me but hes useless.

spoke to my heat treatment chap to day and he said that en19t was not realy the best steel to use for a toothed ring gear.
Can you get it made out of en24t for me as would not need any further treatment?

EN24T and EN19T are both treated to 'T' condition (hence the name!) - they have the same surface hardness and so in this application the difference between EN19T and EN24T is negligable. EN24T is better suited to situations of high cyclic and shock loadings, not really something that should be of a concern here.

In saying that, EN24 does tend to be easier (and thus cheaper!) to get hold of in my experiance. Smile

I've only just come across this thread, brilliant cost for what looks like an excellent modification.

How many hours labour would someone charge to fit one of these? (I'd rather not do it myself as if done incorrectly I'd rather not deal with the consequences!)

Ry

The book time for changing a clutch is 6.5 hours on Autodata - should give you an idea of what should be charged for the job.

Cheers dude. It's not for me then, the car had a clutch change about 15k ago. It's an amazingly cheap modification for people needing to change the clutch though I say. Cool

As Matt said there is little/no difference between EN19T and EN24T grades of steel.

EN19T is more than upto the job Yes

EN19T spec

EN24T spec

Cool

It would probably be easier if you can get it done yourself - I have just had 20 made - so won't be getting any more done for a while.

I could do it, but it will have to be in the next batch - it's not the sort of thing that could be produced easily as a 1-off.

Okay, no worries mate.

Have these light-weight steel flywheels in stock drilled for both the standard clutch, or a a 7.25" race clutch [to suit offerings from Helix, AP Racing and the like].

Cheers,
Rich.

a little more than fitting a clutch, depends on the labour rate of your garage.

These should fit all other XU10 engines with 215mm clutch.

If you want one but have any doubts, just PM me your engine code and I will check for you.
