So got up nice and early today and spent all day out on the car. AM done in now, but managed to get a lot done.

Fist thing was I made 2 brakets to secure the top of the dash.

The primer is on there so I could see my pencil line!!

to attatch them to the dash I drilled 2 4mm holes then counter sank them, then pop riveted them. Can then filler the hole and you wont see the rivot.

I also made a small repair to where the bar at the bottom attatches, just cut a strip of metal and rivoted it on, but I forgot to take a picture as I was holding the dash as I drilled and tried to drill through my finger too Doh. I know how much Daveyboy loves to see my injury pis so here is another.

I then decided to sort out the blanking plate for the vacuum pump.

here is the pump in its component parts

I screwed in the screws and trimmed them off.

I then used a bit of instant gasket just incase it does leak.

I then set about finishing the plate.

Started off with a sheet of 80 grit on a flat board and machine oil.

then 240grit

then 400 grit

then the 800 grit

I then got out the hi temp clear laquer

above is it all done.

I then fitted the dash with the new brakets and started to rn all the wires.
The water/methanol kit wiring where shortened and all clipped to the car. and I fitted the dash centre and I called it a night.

Well I thought I would get out and do some stuff today, but got to lunch time and it p*ssed down with rain, but I got a little done.

First off I made the plate for the handbrake to fix to.
It will have 4 nuts welded to the bottom and then welded to the car, I drilled out 4 big holes so it fits nice and flat.

and yes I did cut my self again, two fingers today

I then took the wire brush to the two bars that fit uder the fuel tank, removed all the rust and gave them a coat of etch primer

So after everything getting a bit wet yesterday, I dried most of it out today.

I then nipped to the local motor factors and brought some tiger seal and a couple of tins of gloss black.

I sprayed the fuel tank rails

Inbetween coats I tiger sealed in the alloy blanking plates for the dash.

That lot too kme a couple of hours, and then I set about finding a way to get the central locking working on its own.

I dont think it will work with out the control box, I took a lock apart, If anyone has the pin outs for the lock I would be greatful.

I best update this I suppose, I have been busy, just been lazy updating this.

Last week end I laid out the central locking loom out on my drive and connected up the alarm and central locking and connected up a battery to the positive pin on the connector and earthed it to.

I tried to lock the locks, but they popped open again, not good.
My first thought was it needs to be connected in the car so started un plugging the alarm and the central locking still worked, so I then cut out all the wires for the alarms.
I then shortened the loom considerably so the central locking ECU will fit under the dash, I also made a bracket to mount this.
Thinking about it I want to try a uncut loom before I fit it in and see if the door locks still pop open with another loom, I think Paul has one so touch wood, Davey boy cut his up to get it out Fail on his part.
Sorry I have no pics of this I was ill all week.

Now prepping a car for paint scares the hell out of me and I really wasnt that confident in doing it, but me being a bit of a geek I decided to buy some books and have a read up, and to be honest it has given me a bit of confidents to give it a go.

First off I spent a lot of cash on a good set of sanding blocks and wet and dry, I would recomend a set of these they are brilliant and the soap that comes with the set is bloody amazing.

Armed with a bowl of water (with a little to much fairy Liquid i set to work)

The door with a guide coat on it.

It took me a good few hours to flat it back ready for primer.

I also did some works on the wings.

Again I forgot the pictures.

I then started putting the looms back in the car, I terminated the 2 engine bay wires for the cut off switch.

And then my favorate bit, I fitted my new switches.
Yes they are a fiver each, but they do look so cool.

I had to cut a bit out of the centre bit of the dash to get it to fit with the switch, but its all fitted and looking great

Tuesday night I hope to have the cut off swtich all wired in and the batery all wired in to.

So after my trip to NUR this week, I thought I best get fitting my new shiney bit.

Before

Now what a ball ache getting it all to line up, what muppet at puegeot thought it would be a good idea to cement the hinges in.

I managed to get three of the nuts undone that hold the hinges in, but one just rounded at was glue got in the thread, so took an angle grinder to it then drilled out the bolts and replaces with some capped ones, took a fair bit of fart arsing around, but managed to drop the hinges the inch they needed to get the top of the tail gate to fit.

after i lined it up and tightened the bolts I put some masking tape on the boot and marked out where the catches where going to go

I cut out the holes, but I ordered the wrong aero catches, I ordered the flush fitted ones, I tried to fit them, and they dont look to bad, but the holes just arnt right, so I ordered the plus fit ones.

Here is the holes cut out

I then fitted the stut.

I had to find a way to keep it shut til the catches arrive as the boot not heavy enough to close

So got home from work today and had a package waiting for me, my new catches.

I drilled two holes so I could hold the catches in place while I drilled the rest of them.

I put some sealer on the back of them before I fitted them so that no water can get in through the back and into the boot.

After I screwed in all the bolts I set about finding a way to fit the pins, my first idea was to weld a bracket to the opening, so I set about making one.

After I had made one and rivoted it in place, and attatched the pin, I had a eureka moment, why the f*ck dont I put the pins up right!!!!!!

I had to modify the catches slightly

and marked out where the holes needed to go, and drilled them and fitted the pins

and it all fits great

I gave the boot a quick clean up to get rid of the dust and finger prints and hey presto

Will get the window ordered at the end of the month and will be finished.

Its a little fiddly getting everything lined up, wasnt too bad with mine as I have the hinges, you wont have that so will be a right ball ache I can imagine as you have to put it back on and off so many times and lining it up on ur own will be impossible as you have to hold it in the right place with no hinges

Tart, you can't race it if you go for a carbon roof, not in tin tops anyway.
