so today I wanted to try and get the dash further along. So fitted the last angle piece and trimmed up one of the ones I had fitted yesterday and then refitted the panel. I will try and leave it bolted down as long as possible so it can form the shape it is supposed to be. Then I set about fitting the kill switch, as I dont have a working Jigsaw, I did it with a drill and a file, and it came out pretty neat, do need some longer M4 bolts though, on my list already!!! then drilled the holes and got filing will have to read to the end of this post to see it fitted as i forgot to take one when it was in. Next I wanted to add some strength to the top and fill in the heater vents on the top. My thinking is one, it will look cool and two should make the top solid enough i wont have to fix it and the bottom fixing points will be enough, but we shall see. First off I have the back of the dash a good rub down and clean. I then cut some fibreglass sheeting to size. then apply some resin on the back around the edge so it adhers then stipple the cloth with the brush so it all soaked in with resin My 2 tips would be, go for a good repair kit like I did from somewhere like frosts, not the stupid kit you get from halford and also when it cold like today put more catalist in as it takes for ever to go off otherwise like it did for me today, but hey you learn by your mistakes I suppose once it had hardened I flipped the dash over and fibre glassed in the hole, but with the fleece this time as opposed to the matting. I also resinned in te two blanking plates Marc made for me ready to be flocked over. and here it is ready to be rubbed down tomorrow |

You do know you could have just drilled a 16mm hole for the cut off switch and poked it through from behind? ________________________________________ Seat Leon Cupra FR / 306 GTI6 / Breaking 205 GTI6 / Caterham 7 / Mercedes Sprinter 311CDI LWB Sold: Fisher Fury - Laguna DCI Estate - P1 306 XSI - E30 BMW 325i Baur Convertible - Daihatsu Fourtack - Suzuki GSXR600 - 205 Rallye |

Never mind mate, they fit both ways, well done on the progress, looks like you have'nt hung around and wasted your time off so far and the dash looks uber racy now. How thick are those ally brackets tho?! 3mm would be fine for that, but if you have any of the 5mm stuff left over you can knock me up some engine mounts! ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. so today went out side to see my fibreglass had dried nicely, all apart from one of the blanking plates, so will have to rethink how i will attatch them, but thats for another day.Anyway how it looked first thing. I then attacked it with some sand paper to get rid of all the high spots. I then mixed up some filler, one golf ball of filler to a pea of harderned, Blah blah blah I then set about getting it in the hole. then gave it a sand down I ran out of sand paper, but its almost there, so a little fiddling tomorrow and it should be spot on. I then turned my attention to the doors. I have thought long and hard about how I can open and close the door from the inside with out bending the door card, and here is my solution. It has added a bit of weight to the door, but once I have finished lightening the braket will be not to bad and the door will open and close. First off I opened up the hole on the door card so the handle fits flush on the out side I then cut a bit of 3mm plate roughly to the right size to fit in the door. And pop riveted it in place. I then reattatched the door card and marked out the hole for the handle and cut it out I then cut as much of the material away with out loosing its strength. I will get jim to weld it into the door when its finished and also weld a bit 90 degrees on it to stop it bending. job for tomorrow is to drill it off and get it even lighter then do the one on the other side, but am waiting on supplies. And I bloody split the plastic on my door handles as I drilled it too fast, so a trip to silver lakes tomorrow i think |

As I worked the weekend, didnt do anything since thursday.Popped down to Jims yesterday for supplies. It really hits you how the consumables really add up. I brought a box of cutting discs, some soft flappy paddles for the grinder and some drill bits, came in over 40 quid. After I went there popped down to performance trim to pick up some door straps. Was too cold to do anything yesterday so got on with it today. So today I trimmed down the bracket I made last week and made it as light as I could, I think I have been spending way to much time with rallye owners its really starting to rub off. thas is it finsihed with the 2 supporting parts. I stilll need to drill the holes in it as I forgot. As the 13mm bit wouldnt fit in my cordless, I had to break out the big boy. It is almost as old as me I think and it has no clutch or anything so it bloody kicks like hell if it gets caught. But drilled holes all day with no problems. I then fitted the lock into the passenger door and stated making the braket for that side. Now this side is differnet to to driverside door as I left the top join in on this side as it is stronger I think. But it does mean to get the brakcet to fit this side needed some thinking about and my solution was to bend over the top of the bracket. It is so much stronger this way and the braket does not flex so much. But like everything you learn as you go. first thing was to cut a plate to size. Then I scored a grove in the place i wanted to bend it. I then clamped a batton along this and found my biggest hammer and hammered it almost over on its self. but not all the way as it needs to follow the contour of the rear part. I marked out the hole for the handle and cut the braket down and drilled all the holes this is it finished This is a picture of the doorcard on with the strap. I think i will pop rivot it in place |

why didn't you just put a gap in the doorcard and a new trigger for the pull-rod on the handle? saves welding stuff into the door + more weight saved________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |

cut a hole out of the doorcard and get a turned rod made up that pulls with a little arm poking off it, like an L shape so you can pull it forwards/backwards along the recess in the doorcard to trigger the door openworks eitherway i guess, just looked a lot of work what you had done but if it works, it works! ________________________________________ 306 rallye reproduction decals (full sets/individual decals) | 306 b-pillar textured vinyl weatherstrips306 slam panel esso stickers | 306 yellow / orange / pension fund red side door badges gti6 inlet manifold badges | 306 rear boot badges (p2/p3) winner of Extraction of toys from prams with outstanding vigour award 2009 [source: gti6 owners club] |
