I am new to the forum, although used to be an avid pug forum go’er helping pug owners a long time ago on another pug forum (can’t remember the name of the forum, it was only pugs, very blue and possibly the only one back then). I'm going to pause there and apologies for my first post asking for help, and a lot of it; however beyond the below I'm hoping to be good
I have had 5x 306’s in the past (all XS models), but after 15 years without, I have just bought my first GTi 6, and also my first Phase 3. It’s the same colour as my very first 306 which is what I wanted. I expect it’ll cost me a fortune and I’m prepared to do a full respray at a point, alongside other major work, as it’s a car to keep. I know phase 1 like the back of my hand (although a little out of touch on parts suppliers), but could really do with some help to keep me honest on things I’m getting a little mixed up on. I would love to replace everything missing/broken with OEM but assume Peugeot discontinued the few parts I need, and finding OEM used isn’t looking very easy (I want to restore this car in weeks, not years
Any help with the following would be greatly appreciated.
1. I need a GTi 6 steering wheel in great condition. A P3 one sold on ebay last month for £30 but there aren’t any others right now. Happy to pay more than that is anyone has one. Otherwise did any other models use the same leather wheel or close? Also, would a 307 or 3008 fit as an interim? whilst I find a P3 leather wheel.
2. The Phase 3 apparently has clear fogs. Assuming I can’t buy OEM of these, is there a next best brand you would choose if not?
3. The car will bump start but not turn over, so assuming the starter motor needs changing. Again, what would be the closest option to OEM for a new starter motor, assuming OEM can’t be bought any more?
4. The alcantara is shot to pieces on the front seats. Is there a top 1 or 2 specialists people here would suggest I get in touch with about retrimming the 306 seats, and what would you expect to pay for replacing the centres per seat?
5. The car has only come with non remote control key, so I want to get the correct keys and central locking back up and working. If I bought new ones can I self programme or should I just take it in to Peugeot? Also, If the central locking key didn’t come with the car, and it’s been used with a manual key in the lock, does this mean that someone has deactivated the immobiliser on the ECU? I saw a video posted last week where someone broke some pins on the ECU to prevent the immobiliser working, so I’m worried that might have been done with this car, unless there is another less intrusive way it might have been turned off.
7. Can anyone confirm the model of radio (Cassette or CD) that would have come in a P3? I’ve seen a couple of photos that suggest it might not be a 306 shaped headunit, but a normal letterbox headunit with the filling surround, so I’m just after the model(s) so I can source one. It appears a 2000 model 306 might have come with cassette as standard but all GTi6 possibly came with CD?
8. Does anyone make repros of the security window stickers at all? Otherwise if anyone fancies sending me a clear photo and sizes of them, I will artwork them, and get them printed to original spec. I could then make them available to other forum members if of interest to anyone.
Sorry, I know that’s a long list, but any help on any of those current challenges would be greatly appreciated. I am after OEM parts where possible, or next best. I will post photos of the car on Wednesday, all its updates as I go, and help others in return
