Weird one from the race car today. When turning right at reasonable speed there's a grinding noise from the gearbox through the Satchshift. It feels like another gear is trying to engage, if I push the Satchshift further to the left the noise gets louder and likewise when I pull it toward me the noise gets quieter.

Initially I thought it was just a Satchshift alignment issue but we've messed around with it a lot and couldn't get the noise to stop. It's only under reasonable load, if I slow down the noise goes away or if I turn the steering wheel less it goes away.

Any ideas? I'm pretty stumped!

What I don't get with those is why it only is an issue in such limited circumstances? Particularly a wheel bearing, why only on power and why can I feel it through the gear stick. The shaft I can sort of understand but still don't know why I can feel it on the stick

Properly because you have solid engine mounts now Dan ...anything wrong / vibrates straight down anything loose ...EG ...satchell gear rods etc

I’m not sure how exactly but my gearstick was shaking like mad when under load. Even the dash was shaking up and down. We thought it must be engine mount completely gone but it turned out to be the drive shaft.

It does sound like a shaft...Yes

Danny when yours was gone in France that time I thought the engine was going to drop out the bottom! Following your car and seeing the tailpipe bouncing violently side to side in the bumper cutout was slightly unnerving! LOL

Cheers guys. Dan, which shaft did you need to replace? Might be worth getting both, assuming I can find some at a reasonable price!

The long shaft most likely , can give gearstick wobble when the inner joint is bolloxed

Negative, ferried it to the garage who tested and found that the new (recon) shaft had an inner joint failure. This was subsequently replaces again and this has also had the same failure. The inner joint popped out again. Beginning to think if there is something else at play or these shafts are too short or really bad luck?

just poor quality by the sound of it, the only shorter shaft I can recall that would fit hub and box are 309 which would be obviously way too short
