Hey guys

Rallye just failed it's MOT on emissions.

I notice euro car parts are selling a cat for £86, and from what I have seen, genuine ones are insanely expensive £700 or so now, if you can even get them!

Edit link fixed: https://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Peugeot_306_2.0_1998/p/car-parts/exhausts/car-body-parts-and-car-exhaust/catalytic-converter/?721545231&1&5a25cce9e70d163a86da68a7459e090aca310a29&000059

What do you guys think about one of those?
And also will anything special have to be welded on for it to fit my magnatex exhaust?

Or is anyone selling a good used cat?

Cheers guys,
Alex

if you have a genuine downpipe in fair condition I would find a local custom exhaust place and get them to fit a sports cat in your existing downpipe.

I haven't seen any pattern cats with pipe large enough for a gti6 engine.

Problem is, Mot is already out, so I can't really driver the car anywhere. Apart from the garage I have the retest booked with next week.

I have been advised to run some cat cleaner through and they also spotted a small exhaust leak which they are going to fix when I bring it back through

Guy said doing both of those should be enough to make it pass.
But I'm always doubtful that these 'cat cleaners' actually do anything.
I've put a bottle in and will drive it around locally for a bit.

CJ, what would you want for it posted to Bristol?
What do you define as 'low mileage' lol

EDIT: Here is a pic of the fail sheet. it doesn't look too too bad to me, maybe he is right? fixing that leak and running that cleaner through might so the job?

A lot Less than 3k it looks more has I’ve not had it on a car for 6 years I’ll grab a pick of it I’d swap it for a slab of beers if you want to pick it up, I rebuild my car with high lift cams that I didn’t know needed different pistons so head didn’t last long 😒

I put this through my car recently and I swear the car runs better since. If you read the reviews lots of people claim it got them through a MOT -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cataclean-Catalytic-Converter-Cleaning-Treatment/dp/B002BVXM92/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1515273876&sr=1-1&keywords=Cataclean+Fuel+Additive+For+Petrol+450ml

Id get it from Euro car parts or GSF as it would be cheaper.

I wouldmt need to break them CJ if you didn't keep ordering parts lol

Its not a genuine cat and not sure how many miles it's covered but like I said recently passed a MOT.
Looking at your failure I would sort the exhaust leak and give it a good clear out and it should pass.

Hey guys, an update on this!

After running the cat cleaner throug and getting the cat REALLY hot, it passed!

I'll probably look into getting some kind of sport cat put into the car later in the year! Smile

Mine passed it's MoT last week but was originally going to fail on emissions. During the summer, I bought a second hand but genuine pug cat from Ryan and handed it in to MoT place. They fitted it and said it passed with flying colours. Amazing the difference a genuine cat makes, even when they are used.
