Spelling police Thumbs up

One of the 2 types of plastic clips near the rear arch are NLA. If you are careful you can resurrect them by replacing the double-sided spongy tape stuff. Sometimes you see the clips on ebay. This is covered in my project thread.

I replaced the rivets with stainless rivnuts in case they need to come off again in the future. I drilled out the alloy bit of the rivet carefully, and cut the protruding bit off with a dremel, and caused no damage to the sill at all. You will unavoidably end up with the other end of the rivets in the sill. Use the opportunity to blow some cavity wax in there, the lance will fit in the rivet holes. Best to remove inside trim to do the rear bit as the sound insulation goes right down into the sill. Also you can access the inside half of the sill (it is centrally divided with a stiffening piece) through the front footwells.

Quote from my project thread:

"I used 16mm length bolts which was perfect.

Bolts are M4, washers are M5 (for total approx diameter of original rivet heads as the holes in the skirts are quite big), and stainless splined rivnuts have M4 thread with 6mm outside diameter (1mm wall thickness)".

Also see page 9:

http://www.306gti6.com/forum/showthread.php?id=136766&page=9

Rivnut link I used is here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170778239746?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Just checked and it still works.

So removed the side skirt today was purity easy thanks for all the pointers, and to my delight there is no horrible rusty holes behind it.

Replacing the rear clips are a pain, I thought I had done them on mine but the glue became useless again so now it's loose. I might try some double sided strips or a bit of tiger seal to help hold them on.
