that's the inner CV joint, right side shaft is a two part unit, you have most likely lost many of the needle rollers from it, if you've been lucky and they're all there then all you need is an inner cv boot and wash all the crap out of it.

to check the rear you need to take the wheel and brake pads off.

so these needle rollers where do they belong are they going to be ratling around my gearbox now or not

wash all the crap out of what and what crap i assume you mean mud etc but i never left the tarmac so i doubt there is any

Needles are in the universal joint bearings the three bearings on the end of that section of shaft , they look ok but without having hands on its hard to tell
The crap is the grease on the shaft end and in the boot degrease and replace with fresh cv grease and new boot rubber

The rubber boot maybe split so will need replaced
If you take of the rubber that is still attached to the car it will reveal the cup the end it goes into. make sure the spring is still in there its pretty simple you need to remove the end of the shaft that is attached to the hub at the wheel end dismantle it and refit a new boot ( look for the faq)
Or buy a second hand shaft from ??? And refit

Your gearbox should be fine is the seal leaking ???

If it is buy a new gearbox seal

Try and get some pics of the steering rack and tie rods id replace the tie rod end as a matter of course there around 15bucks for a good one lemforder are good or febi

Switched my hub bearing changed the tie rod end changed the cv boots and the shocks top mounts changed the springs n put b8s etc today its fairly simple once you get going i dont have a garage all is done on the drive so have become fairly swift in operation
But can be easily done in a couple of days if you new to these jobs
Bonus if you have a garage Thumbs up

hmmmm

so the shock looks like this and the bit that attaches to the bottom wobbles a fair bit however that rust tells me that something might have been up for a while ive always had a knock too and that wheel was alredy warped slightly

dont really have the tools to get this off however the track rod looks straight so might just leave it for now

when it comes to this inner cv joint thing im sutch an idiot i thought this this was over the gearbox but after getting a propper look (and looking on the faq's here a few days before to be honest) it not ha ha
im guessing though that it will have to come out to get a new boot on anyway what size is the nut that holds it into the wheel for referance 32?

also what is that white cable/pipe thing its been damaged (how badly i couldnt see diddnt fancy sticking my head under there with only that jack

you need a pair of dampers by the look of it, ideally remove the inmer half of the shaft to get a new boot on, 35mm socket.

get to halfords and buy a trolley jack and axle stand set.

which bit wobbles?

From experience you could well find that the arm and the subframe are both bent after an impact such as that. Wouldn't surprise me if the hub is bent too considering it folded the bottom ball joint in half and bent the bottom of the shock

bit of an update i got the ball joint on today and drove it the short distance over the bridge to our island as it was kind of in the way where it was (and i had to park a 15 miunite walk away which was anoying)

i diddnt notice any obvous bending to any other parts and the wheel was sitting streight so hopefully bending the ball joint and damper absorbed the energy

someone asked which bit wobbles......... dont know whats its called the part that is attached to the bottom of the damper that whole part wobbles around the damper dont know how to explain that better

appart from that that crappy jack i pulled out of a crashed 306 at the scrappy years ago finally died so i couldent get any further

ah yeah the damper body is very dented in the clamp so you need new dampers.

looks like just the stub pin is bent not the arm then, if the bearing is still smooth you can re-use it by drifting the pin out.

dont be tempted to pull the bearing off as the inner race will stay on the pin and damage the seals

To be honest it might be less hassle to just get a known good pair of 2nd hand ones off ebay/someone on here. They aren't expensive at all.

what are we talking about here disks or dampers

dampers were replaced 12k ago according to paperwork so i would only need the one i would have thought

im assumeing disks should be done in pairs should they

The thing is about accident damage is that it is not always very obvious that something is damaged, the shock of impact can manifest itself in ways you do not expect. I would replace anything that might be affected as a matter of course - this stuff should be cheap enough with all the people on this forum willing to help you out, free parts, getting stuff off scrap cars etc. Don't skimp out by trying to keep something that _might_ be OK. Do it nice or do it twice.

I meant hubs rather than trying to replace just the stub pin etc.

so the whole rear beam then?

so now ive had a good look i now know whats needed

front damper
front driveshaft (i figure its easer to just replace it with a known good one and give this one to someone who knows what theyre doing with it part exchange type thing hopefully
rear disk (and pads) (do i need to do both sides)
side skirt thing
two wheels (i know one is warped it was before the crash i assume the other could be too)

and whatever is decided for the back
