I am looking at getting a rear beam refurb and was thinking of changing the dampers at the same time as no idea how long they have been on the car.

What do people think of these, my car is road use only really with maybe an occasional trackday.

These Gaz Golds:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-205-306-309-Gaz-adjustable-rear-shocks-/191974861219?hash=item2cb297e9a3:m:mlXoA4IYa9-fyYNMjnkgRmw

Or these competition Gaz golds, worth the extra £50? Will the ride be too hard do you think?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191919616514?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

They are about £100 cheaper than b6's and thought a few members here had them fitted?

Think day666 swore by 205 Tarmac dampers when his car was mainly a road car think it's in his project thread and they were recommended by miles if I remember correctly

A friend of mine had Gaz Golds on his Focus RS mk2. He didn't rate them at all well - corrosion was a big issue IIRC. To be honest if you're going for road use the Bilstein B8 front dampers and 205 rears should do.

The other option is to replace with genuine Pug parts. You'd be surprised how much of a transformation replacing the knackered old Pug parts with new can make. Granted it's not necessarily the cheapest method but given the stock handling & ride was raved about back in the day it could be worth your while, especially as it's primarily a road car.

What you plan to run on the front of the car is relevant to what would be good on the rear.

Ah okay maybe the gaz golds arn't the best then if they are gonna rust to bits...

I wasn't planning on upgrading the front just yet, was hoping to get the back done then sort the front at a later date.

Was probably going to go for bilstein b8's on the front with 30mm eibach springs as seems like a pretty tried and tested solution. But havn't thought too much into it. Maybe I should just get the b12 kit for 500 was just trying to split the cost up really...

Don't bother with Gaz. Imho, s**te!

Mainly road, I'd go bilstein b6, as I tend to recommend these with b8s and eibach on the front

Thank you m8 ...I took my advice off Jord294 who knows his stuff Thumbs up
I believe the advice I was given was spot on .....my £3k suspension now is better but not £3k better ...so unless your going on the track stay with what I had Bilsteins ...totally amazing but get fronts also or your wasting your dosh ....

Buy Bilstein B6 group n tarmac rears amazing & comfortable on the road & much better than standard B6s ...also 21mm torsion bars off 306 estates or VTS & use standard ARB ...don't upgrade for road !
& Bilstein B8 fronts with Eibach springs 30mm drop can't beat that all round ...Thumbs up

Just for info Gaz Golds are no longer gold, they're now a black finish which is said to offer better corrosion resistance - however it doesn't look that's what your eBay link is actually selling and it's true that the gold finish doesn't last long.

Has anyone got a part no. on the B6 group N dampers - or is that what B6 is?

Cheers
Iain

the group n or a are not B6, B6 is the standard fast road stuff.

there's many different specs too, 306 group A are much higher damping rate than 205 for example, but are intended for much bigger bars.

If you go to bumpy Combe as often as I have you wouldn't say that & my car wasent stripped like now when I first had Group N & group A
I can't see after paying nearly double if there's much difference?

Miles who's a Bilstein dealer said he's been told the same ?

Tbh goup A's being twice the price as N's, I think I will go for N's gotta be better than OEM anyway. And it is mainly a road car at the end of the day Smile thanks everyone for their advice!
