Does anyone know how Rallye/GTi-6 calipers appeared when the cars left the factory? Were they unfinished or painted a certain colour?

The calipers were unpainted but when new had a gold looking coating on.

On the first wash the the coating reacted with the alloy wheel cleaner I use to use and corroded after that.

They were zinc passivated.

They'd react because the wheel cleaner you're using is full of acid. Not the best thing to use 'cause it attacks the wheel lacquer too.

Yep, I was gutted when it happened and the last time I used wonder wheels cleaner, just soapy water now.

This was when the car was new, nice shiny calipers went corroded after the first wash. After paying a lot of money for something then see bits of it corrode in front of your eyes wasn't nice.

Painted them after this so it was no big deal.
