I got it out the garage for the first time this year, over the past few years not really used it to be honest, other cars got in the way and so did two extra kids! Three in total now!!! I couldn't justify selling it as it's got a small fortune in the bloody thing, no one would want to give me anything for it so it was garaged, have to say I think it was the best decision.
I got up early and popped over to the garage i store it at, I put the battery on (I disconnected it) and to my delight, it started, well after I bypassed the Clifford alarm, (think the fob battery's are dead), drove it to work and have to say it felt great, still planted and bloody swift, I did think it would feel old and dated but no was just as I remembered it. Had a few niggles though, the interior light fell out the roof, the digital clock display was just an orange blur, the air bag light was on, oh and the radio sounded s**t with the factory sound settings, all sortable though, I just wonder how these things happen in a warm garage??
Well got to work and left it outside, looked odd with nearly a years worth of barn find dust on it and the rain now making it look really unloved with the dust streaks. As the day went on and the jobs got sorted I pulled it into the garage and set about fixing the niggles. These were all easily sorted and I had most bits in stock, the wiring under the seat was a repair which involved removing the plug and hard wiring the joint, just need an interior light but have a feeling I have one somewhere.
I also gave the inside a clean, although the car never looked dirty it was so dusty all the trim looked faded, it's unreal what the three rags looked like I had used when I had finished, have to say it's cleaned up well and the car has very little wear to it at all on the inside.
A clean Rallye interior-
The exterior can wait till tomorrow, I spent what felt like hours trying to clean water marks off the lower part of the windscreen where it meets the scuttle panel, reminded me off what you get scraped off your teeth when at the dentists
Reason the cars up and out is that I have booked myself on a track day next Friday at silverstone and thought why not get the Rallye out there and enjoy it, its going to have to prove itself as there are a few bits of nice machinery due to be there and I thought I best get it to work and check it over, most cars at the track day are rear wheel drive and the Rallye is great fun especially when it rains as the others can't get there power down, I realised this at Bedford last year in my old track supercharged 205, I was over taking m3s and Porsches, the looks I got when I pulled up in the pits were unreal, it ended up being the tool of the day and everyone had a go.
I will get some photos of it in action on the day, I just wonder how it will compare to the golf r my friend is taking with him, they are bloody good fun.
Well there you have it, had to tell someone, is anyone else booked on the track day, silverstone the 18th?
Carl
