Morning all,

Not having a good couple of weeks with the car so far, the other week hit a pot hole burst a tyre, cg motorsport clutch release bearing decided it didnt want to be part of the clutch, and then last night i went to the car let it warm up before moving (as always) and it started misfiring, had a few coil packs lying about and fitted no3 coil pack and misfire sorted! So coming to work this morning car started missing again but then cleared then csme back and now when im pulling away from a junction it misses and then clears when im Already driving is seems to be fine only when on idle and when im pulling away, surely if it was another coul pack it would misfire all the time? Any help would be great thanks. Also just to mention it has been raining here constantly for days if that makes any difference but its been fine in rain before.

check the plugs are tight, also check the condition of them.

Had one a couple of weeks ago on a 6 that only had a miss on no 1 cylinder (gearbox end) on idle long story short was an air leak from inlet gasket

Coil packs can fail intermittently.

Ok update changed the plugs seems to have workd for about a mile then started again then got really bad like missing all the time founf out it was cyl 2 just by unpluggin each injector one by one, so thought possibly another coil pack, but... Got up nice and early this mornin to bring the car into work and beat the traffic on my way the dash started doing like a test mode all the dials had a mind of there own apart from the coolant temp gauge, (will put up a video on face book, as its easier to upload to that), starting to get a bit disheartened with this thing now its been great for the last 4 years, probably just after all the years now is the time everything is starting to go, maybe shouldave said before but i done the clutch on thursday there if theres anything i may have missed that could cause that?

earth cable!

gearbox to chassis and gearbox to battery cable check its connected clean up the connections Wink

No worries will do that video is up on facebook if u havent already seen it posted it on a few pages. Thanks guys, do u think that could cause a slight misfire? Or will that just be the dash? Also how f**ked does the engine need to be before the engine management light comes on? Lol it comes on when i turn the ignition on but not when it misfires or anything like that lol

Earth cables on the gearbox and the chassis leg are perfect cleaned up and the dash is still doing all sorts of funky stuff

second earth point on the chassis leg under the battery?
also check the earth is connected near the throttle pedal

dash doing the needle dance is down to low voltage

Got looking at autodata noticed the only thing that isnt run by the dash control module is the coolant temp and its the only thing on my dash that isnt doing funky things could be the dash control module? Yeah checked all the earths for resistance and cleaned up the points on the chassis leg itself so they are all ok i havent checked the one near the throttle pedal

Check the battery earth and then check the connection through the bulkhead.
Also could be the double relay or crank sensor cocking about

Ive just replaced the crank sensor with a delphi one could be a bad sensor? The battery terminals seem to be ok ill take then off and clean them up.

Hey again, been keeping the car at my work recently because of the misfire and dash problems, took the car out of the garage this morning still sounding like a scooby, went to the car to bring it back in and no misfire and the dash was behaving! WTF!?! Ive checked everything surely theres something im missing that so obvious? Ive checked every earth on the car and the battery terminals are 100% clean and tight! I was honestly thinking the dash and the coil pack had gone

Ok, the next port of call which would affect both the poor running and dashboard issue would be the main loom plug/plugs joining the entire engine loom to the car.

These are common for corroding and causing all sorts of issues.
You will find these on the inner passenger side wing at the bottom next to the standard air filter location.
They are multi pin round black plugs which are plugged in and then there is a large black locking ring which screws them in place to secure them.

Simply unscrew the locking rings and pull the plugs apart and inspect the pins for corrosion or a green colour, indicating the presence of water previously.
Clean the pins up and then refit.

This will more than likely solve your issue.

This would explain alot man thanks for that, been really wet recently up here and when i dome the clutch its guaranteed ive disturbed it! Will pull the loom out and check all the wiring (the car is off the road just now anyway), will check it all for continuity and what not thanks will let u know

Little up date the car is locked away for now got the wiring loom out and started checking for continuity had no continuity at all on the feed wires for cylinders 3&4 coil pack plugs, pulled the ecu plug to bits and the wires look fine so i seem to have a break in the wires but just need to find out where just need to try find out why the dash is doing what its doing and get it back on the road! Missing it so much hate the leon Sad

Coil pack! As far as i can tell the dash control module takes a feed off coil pack on cyl 2 and as that coil pack was being faulty it was making the dash faulty too new coil pack in and she purrrrs like a kitten or a lion (i dont remember it being that loud, but i havent drove it in about 4 months)

err, no.

rpm signal is from ecu based on crank sensor signal.

still, a shot coil will cause a misfire which will throw the revs about a bit
