Just wondering what everyone uses for rust treatment before coating with underseal. I'm treating the worst of the rust with Deox Gel which is working great. Got some Hammerite Underbody seal - anyone used it before? Thanks |

Waiting on some arriving myself have the gel and primer on the way then will seal with wax oil reacon this is the best keep the wax oil clear as its not possible to see or heal the other side of the metal this will allow you to keep check on the finish in the future full paint jobs look lovely but hide the truth of the steel only done a couple but works for me Arches i cure and or remove rust and caot with hammerits underseal the black tar stuff works well be sure to remove the rust as it will grow back underneath its all in the prep as thay say With the black tar be sure to place tin in a pot of boiling water to get it runny then brush in spray is easier but messy ________________________________________ BLACK RALLYE - phoenixWHITE RALLYE - valliant http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history |

Zinc primer is very effective and a proven technology. I took a rear disc back plate off my car last week that had been zinc primed and then painted silver 3-4 years ago and there was no trace of rust on it. Whichever product you use it is a faff getting the rust off. I found Deox gel good but needed 2-3 applications in some places. If there is scaly rust you need to chisel that off first before putting the Deox on there. Once you have the rust off you need to think about how you will protect the metal. Underseal can make it difficult to see what is going on underneath it and if any rust is not completely removed it will keep rusting under the underseal. I wouldn't apply underseal over bare metal, I'd protect it first. Have a look at some of the project threads on here and you will see what people have done. If you need any welding done you need to apply your chosen protective coating to both sides of the metal otherwise it will rust from the inside! ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |

I found that coating with curust a few weeks before allows the crust to peel away nicely i wouldnt use it as a coating or fix but it certainly helps alot ________________________________________ BLACK RALLYE - phoenixWHITE RALLYE - valliant http://public.servicebox.peugeot.com/ https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history |
