Hi all

Too much to retype so I'll paste in my ebay advert.



Here for sale is my late 1999 beloved and now very rare Peugeot 306 GTI 6. These are regarded as one of the best hot hatches made and without doubt in my eyes the best Peugeot hatch ever. They produce a very healthy 167HP from the XU10J4RS engine and were one of the first mass produced cars to feature a manual 6 speed gearbox.

My vehicle is a rare Phase 3 vehicle in the stunning Diablo Red metallic. It has spent most of it's life in the hands of a mid 50's lady solicitor who used the car to go to and fro the tennis club from her multi million pound Edwardian house.

It's only covered 80000 miles from new which is very, very low for this age of car.

I'll talk about the body and interior shortly but firstly I'd like to mention the service history. Put simply, you will never, ever find another 16 year old French hot hatch with service history like this. I'll highlight the key details of the history below as I do not wish for it to be lost in a sentence;


- Every MOT certificate since the first issue at 3 years old (2002)
- Most MOT emissions print outs
- Every single service receipt (apart from the very first) from new back to its first set of rubber over mats when purchased (incidentally still in the vehicle)
- Every tyre receipt from new (Bridgestones to Yokohamas)
- Every exhaust receipt from new
- Every additional maintenance receipt from new (alarm, suspension work, cylinder head etc)
- Original Phase 3 sales brochures
- Both sets of keys (functional)
- Owners wallet with owners books
- Service history booklet with 14 service stamps (4 Peugeot, 9 Peugeot specialist and 1 Independent garage)
- Lots of previous tax discs (a nice thing to have!)


I can almost guarantee you that you will never find another with documentation like it. Typically with a car of this age and vintage you will receive 1 working key, 10 owners, an MOT and that's it. The history on my car is quite remarkable and will sell the car on it's own. If you want a car to store with some provenance then this is the one for you.

Again, all of the above bar the very first are receipted for and the service book is of course fully up to date.


Recent major additional work in it's history have included;


- Cylinder head overhaul with 16 new valves due to crank pulley slippage in 2010 (invoice for £1478.11 includes head gasket kit and additional work)
- Front suspension rebuild in 2011 consisting of new front dampers, springs, top mounts, lower arms and drop links (invoice for £726.58)
- Valeo replacement OEM radiator, coolant and bottom hose (£394.75 in 2014)


I purchased the car and embarked on a mini restoration to ensure the vehicle met my high standards. Within the last 3 weeks I have completed the following major work (again, all invoiced for with times/dates/mileages etc listed);


- Major service including Fram oil filter, Fram air filter, Fram fuel filter, Total Quartz 7000 10W40 semi-synthetic oil, NGK BKR6EK spark plugs and Pagid DOT4 full brake fluid change

- Pagid front and rear brake discs, pads and disc retaining screws (discs have lovely anti-corrosion coating on them and everything has been correctly stripped down, greased and rebuilt)

- Genuine Peugeot clutch cable

- Replacement number plates (originals perished as per current MOT's only advisory)

- Major cambelt change service including;
Dayco 136T OEM cambelt kit with metal tensioner and idler bearing
Dayco 6PK1610 auxilliary drive belt
KWP metal impeller water-pump with genuine Peugeot gasket and new bolts
Genuine Peugeot thermostat, seal and housing
Genuine Peugeot pre-mixed coolant flush and change
Total BV 75W80 gearbox oil change


The vehicle now starts, drives and handles like new! With all the major work completed it will need nothing within the near future apart from it's scheduled oil service next year. Note that the vehicle also supports Goodridge braided brake lines which are a nice long term solution to perishable rubber brake pipes. The engine runs super smooth; the oil is so clear from being over serviced it's whole life you almost can't see it on the stick. The transmission is also lovely and slick with no crunching or bad habits.

The body work is also in immaculate condition without hardly a mark or scuff. It really is remarkable for 16 years and is a credit to it's ownership and having lived most of it's life sat in a heated garage! There is a small scuff on the front corner of the bumper but I will be touching this in to make it look almost perfect. Bar the scuff, I know you won't find one like this again. It really is that good. There are literally no stone chips on the car.

The car is completely rust free throughout. I have added some Dinitrol Metallic brown wax onto key areas of the vehicle for some protection. The spare wheel has never been removed from the car and even the area above it (common restoration point for 306 GTI's) is remarkably clean and clear (vehicle has not been used during winters).

The interior is also in immaculate condition having seen no rear seat passengers for 13 years. The carpets are all clean and unmarked having had rubber mats fitted from new. The drivers seat has some bobbling which is to be expected but is far better than any other out there for sale.

All tyres are Yokohama C Drive in the correct 195/55/15. At the recent major service it was listed that the fronts have around 5mm with the rears around 7mm, so plenty of life left in them for now. The vehicle has always run Bridgestone Potenzas but unfortunately these are now out of production.

As with any aged vehicle there are some negatives which I will highlight below.

1 - The cyclone alloys although clean and straight could do with re-painting to make them absolutely perfect
2 - The A/C does not work and has not done for 7 years (common 306 issue where A/C fails early on and is not worth repairing)
3 - A very light ticking sound has been evident since the cylinder head rebuild in 2010. I have had this diagnosed and its not the typical GTI tapping from valve contact with valve seat. I think an 'italian tune-up' will most likely cure this as the vehicle has remained completing local tennis club drives for over a decade without the engine being really exercised. The ticking could however be the traditional 306 GTI injector tick which is just the sound of the injectors working. Note that you cannot hear this ticking when driving but only when standing with your head in the engine bay and the bonnet up!


Even with the above common 306 issues I know this is the straightest and most genuine 306 out there now. With the prices of 205's, R5 GTT's and Williams Clio's rocketing its only a small amount of time before these start to rocket in value. Get one whilst you can, there are literally none left. A solid future investment and one that could win Pugfest without too much work.

I saw this on Pistonheads and kept an eye on it for a week or so. While it obviously is a very lovely car and a well kept example, for me I was quite put off by the asking price.
Personally I hate it when people comment on price on someones advert (believing your car your price generally) but since you asked.....If you're not seeing many bites - that could be why.

It should fetch reasonable money but I won't sit here and spam you with prices that I think it should be at!

Shame really. I have my Lexus and IS300 plus my ACS7 for sale.

The moment one car sells the others come off the market!

Funny thing is I had some chap turn up and offer me £2100 for cash to which I said 'no'.

With hindsight, that may have been a fair price but I just couldn't see a reason to drop the price!

It's a cracking car and surely one of only a few left.

However, that said I am willing to let it go for sensible money for anyone on this forum. Personally, I'd like to see whoever buys it complete a full restoration with pictures so I can watch with anticipation!

Some other points to mention.

I fitted some new genuine PSA side repeaters since one of the latches was broken.

I have the original Clarion head unit which I may fit back to remove the Alpine the lady fitted (reason? It was too much hassle for her to go into the boot everytime to change CD's!).

I have a genuine pressed style Klarius rear exhaust box (brand spanking new) complete with a genuine PSA fitting kit (clamp, nuts/bolts and rubber hangers) which I will be fitting to replace the ill fitting Hoffman crap!

I even have a spare Mann oil filter and some 10W40 I'll chuck in (Triple QX but I'm sure it performs just like the Total I have filled with).

Both sets of working keys are also adorned with genuine PSA GTI red key fobs!

It's a nice car, but it's not one of a few left. Cars like this crop up every so often but unless it's a Rallye it won't command a premium. Not at this point in time anyway.

To give you an idea my 75k Nile Blue GTi 6 recently sold for half of what your asking. I'm not saying you won't get your asking price but if you want it shifted quickly you will need to drop the price a bit.
