Went to a motor factors this morning and they came up with the bush I'm after for the gearbox... Think it might be from a golf or something.

So I've been playing with the gearbox mount and head scratching on what to do, the bush above wasn't really strong enough and sagged which I wasn't keen on. So I decided to make something similar to the pug setup

Two studs stick up here, the rear one is a lower and the original mount is a step down design.
Couple of spacers I had bring it back up level.

I cut out a section of steel drilled holes to mount, drilled through the centre and added the original peugeot gearbox stud. I welded it on the underside, few tacs around the top and painted it

I then made a mount for the peugeot gearbox mount, I'm using a standard pug one but if it's not soft it's then dead easy to swap to a bm item

So got the engine mounts finished off and some good progress

309 GTI arms and Gaz coilovers handed down from the 205

Which come with eccentric top mounts

Back on 4 wheels (borrowed from the 205 while it's apart)

Engine back in permanently sump clearance is fine

Subtle - ish

Make time!

If you don't have the time it's not high enough on the priority list! And time becomes an excuse for not doing it.

Purchased a new DTA s60, Spa 0-9k tacho and lotus 45mm bodies from Jorg!

Also Had to drive past Merlin's today so purchased a Simons centre and back box in 2.5" along with two 2.5' pipe. Going for a straight centre exit!

Picked up a GTI tank and pump as will be injection

Got the dimensions of the civic radiator today and will fit nicely In the 309 bay and isn't much bigger than a 309 one plus has the benefits of the right size and position outlets. Ordered one and will be turning up tomorrow so big weekend planned on the 309!

Full day on the car today

Civic radiator drops in like so.

Exhaust fabricating... Now this is the first time I've tried to make an exhaust, I don't have access to any proper equipment except welder, grinder etc.

Because I'm running the standard tank the exhaust has to run through the gap for it, else it'll sit low.

So an angle was required, I cut 3/4 of the way through with a grinder and cut out a wedge shape, closed the gap and welded it back together like so.

Exhaust boxes didn't have mounts on them so made some out of 6mm bar and welded them on, also had to weld hooks onto the boot floor to hang the exhaust.

Had to angle the pipe work up after the beam so the box sits up nice and high. The front section will have 12 inches or so cut off, silencer added and the cut off section will mate upto the manifold. Will wait till I get it before doing that section.

How it'll fit

Need to get my hands on a 4-2-1 civic manifold to finish the system.

Very impressive mechanical capability,
but did you took in your considerations the new weight distribution in a light car ?
a dressed K20 weight 326 lbs from what i picked.
bare one weight 280 lbs,
with tranny it's about 400 lbs,
what was the weight of the original engine ?

400lb ~ 181kg, probably no more than a built up gti6 engine, which is 35bhp short of the k20

is 127kg correct for a bare alloy blocked k20?

a bare 1.9 8v xu is 72kg, a gti6 bare will be around 110!

for an alloy MI16 that is probably not far off, the gti6 fully dressed is around 150, a lot of heavy stuff gets bolted to them!

O.K , so what was the more nimble better handling 309 ?
the one with the weak 72 kg 8v engine or the 30916v with Mi16 engine lump ?

I'm not sure on the weight, but working with it I would say it's lighter than a iron XU engine.
