Just about to fit the cooler pre-trackday, and im sure the previous owner said the car is running 5w30 - is that correct? Did a search and some say 10w40?
Would appreciate any advice
Cheers

10w 30 is not 'thick' enough higher up the temperature range, put at least 10w 40 in as thats the recommended grade by Peugeot. I also run a 10w 50 in my track car.________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! My Budget track engine build thread! Definitely would not be running oil thinner than manufacturer spec, especially in an old engine and/or on a track day. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |

Nope 10w 40 is standard spec. 5w 40 is arguably too thin when cold for the engine.... ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! I think I need to correct myself here, using the word 'thin' or 'thick' is technically wrong, it's all about flow rates at certain temperatures, there's a good article on it here: http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/ ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! In looking up the oil spec for the GTI-6 a while ago on the opie oils page, it said manufacturer spec was 10w40 semi-synthetic or 5w40 synthetic. I can't find the same page now though. I'd say 5w40 is still OK, but on a higher mileage engine I think sticking to a decent quality 10w40 is the best idea. ________________________________________ Cherry Rallye SOLD |

This is the fully-synthetic oil that Peugeot recommend, and it is inexpensive:https://www.nielsencdg.co.uk/acatalog/Total-Quartz-9000-5w-40-Synthetic-Engine-Oil-148650-5L-TOT_148650.html Unless it is a specialist application etc. why not just use that? ________________________________________ 61k miles Ph.1 Diablo '6 Project Thread |
