Just wanna run through my symptoms before I make any hasty decisions.

Rear beam had a full rebuild 40k ago and solid mounts around 15k ago with no issues.

Recently over the past 2 weeks the beam has developed a bad clonk, only really when turning left or right at parking speeds and driving speed. Going over bumps doesn't instigate it.

Had it up in the air the other day. Slight play in the lower shock bushes but not 100% sure its that I can feel when i rock the wheel 12 - 6 or it is actually the bearing with a bit of play. Action of the trailing arm seems smooth with no resistance or grinding.

Contributing factors, I drive over black and yellow speed humps most days and its awkward for the rear suspension leaving and arriving on my drive. The bearings installed from memory were original equipment I believe but had a reduced amount of rollers compared with the originals.

What do you guys think?

if the bearings are worn it could be the arb clonking in the arm shaft, or the end plate shifting under the 13mm bolt.

I had the same and the end plate bolt had come out and the bar was floating/banging against the tube

Its a hybrid ARB as well so larger in diameter. Knock seems more apparent from nearside as opposed to offsideHmm

This happened before and my hybrid arb even disengaged so they are up mega tight now. I didn't check but I'll have a closer look.

Did some further investigation on this earlier after i got home from work and took the hybrid anti-roll bar out...

and found this...

The smaller splined end on the offside of the ARB looked very worn. In the pictures if you look closely you can even see some of then chipped and very slightly twistedUnsure

One of the rubber gromets as you can see is mullered so I repositioned it thinking it could be that and re-assembled. I thought Id go for a quick test drive to check everything is in order and when I went down the awkward slope leaving my drive I heard an almighty bangShock

Reversed immediately back on to the drive way to do a quick visual and i coudnt see anything wrong so I went again and ive got major roll when turning right like theres not even an ARB in thereErm?

It must be the case the bang was the splines finally giving up?????

The good thing is ive still got my old ARB. Found it in my dads loft from when I used to live with him.

How dodgy is that though? Has anyone else ever heard of this or had it happen to them?

sounds like its buggered, have seen it happen on std arb's but they didn't make any noise.

I would check you have the correct end plate fitted, count the splines.

From experience, I found that hybrid arbs, either had oversize splines meaning end plates really difficult to get on, or undersized splines, meaning end caps had none or hardly any interference to fit.

One reason I always kept the std arb

Cheers guys, I'll inspect the end cap before I put the standard arb back. One side was seized on anyway so only one side to scrutinize for wear. From memory its the nearside larger end thats free and that looks ok.

I had this very same problem where the nearside end arm plate just he'd the ARB floating around where the splines had gone.
