Every year for the past three years I have done the charity bike ride from Leicester to Skegness (100miles) and raised around £500-600 every year, this year a very close friends wedding landed on the same day, a good friend of mine asked to borrow my road bike, well you can work out the rest!!

She raised around £500 for a throat charity and yesterday somebody stole my Chris boardman hybrid pro road bike worth £900 when I bought it two years ago, (plus lights, speedo etc) she has said she will pay for it but it makes me feel awkward.

Long shot but if anyone gets offered one cheap please let me know, I will offer a £150 reward to anyone who helps me get it back.

Crap picture but I never took a photo of the bike myself

Thanks, Carl

Gutted for you, mate. I was looking at getting one of these when I was commuting 25 mile a day.
Fantastic bikes, hope you have luck finding it.

That's s**t mate, had someone rob by road bike from outside the gym, snipped off the lock and buggered off. Some people just need setting fire to.

Is it possible to put some kind of alert on ebay so if they go on for sale you're notified? Long shot I know but even if you get your money from the insurance it's still the principal of finding the bas**rds.

Shouldn't really...

She asked to borrow it and if it was stolen while in her care then it's pretty simple. The emotional side of things really shouldn't enter into the equation.
The simple fact is that IF you had not let her borrow it then you would still have it. You cannot be expected to simply write-off the bike because she embarked on some charity ride. What she was doing with it isn't of relevance here.

It's good to see she offered to pay for it. Hopefully you will see sense and accept it rather than go through your insurance company which will, in all probability, either impose an excess or increase your next year premium. Mate or no mate and charity-ride or not, this needs resolved with 0 inconvenience to you.

Anyway, it's still crap that some thieving scrotes decided they wanted it. It's bokers how folks think it's fine to steal someone else's property. There should be FAR more stricter punishments, at least then it might deter others..

When I lived in Bristol a few people near us had bikes stolen who were apparently followed home from bike meets, and the corner of the up-and-over garage door simply bent upwards until they could get in and get out with the bike. Lots of Boardmans etc stolen - there seems to be a good market for stolen bikes. Lots of lycra-wearing thieving scrotes around these days.

I second the responsibility thing - I lost a mate's bike once and paid up in full for it. Maybe she can claim on her insurance.

I've the conscience of a spoilt toddler but I'd still feel awkward accepting money from someone for something that probably wasn't their fault. Unless she left it laying in a park whilst in the boozer or something?

Had they broken it or ruined it, it would be different.
