Car failed MOT today on rear brake efficiency, it needs new pads too. They said something about adjusting the cable out to the stops of the caliper to get the best out of them. Can anyone shed some light on this please.

If you have a compensator, it may be seized

You can't miss it if you have one.

It's fastened to the o/s crossmember support, with 4 pipes coming out of it

    Lol he said make sure I fully slacken the handbrake adjuster then pump the peddle and make sure the cable stops are right up against the arm. No idea what he's on about either.

    I do, he means the handbrake cable inner swaged fitting, slacken the cables off, mash the pedal ( after freeing the load compensator) so the rear pistons self adjust, then take up the slack in the cables.

    Rather than just tighten the cable up like most idiots do.
