Well the fumes given off when charging a lead acid battery are not exactly good for you to start with.....

The Fumes given off by a properly charging lead acid battery be it dry cell or wet is Hydrogen which is HIGHLY EXPLOSIVE and oxygen which excellerates the burn

althought the these fumes wont harm you the explosion might ring your ears a little and i think earplugs wont help Wink

a bad charged battery or rough treatment would give off the nasty stuff!
Sulfuric acid vapours are extremely irritating to skin and you dont want to be breathing these fumes it affects the nervous system, respiratory tract, lungs, and impair the cardiovascular system. These effects are from inhalation only

my advice is if you want to relocat the battery! put battery in a sealed container and vent it to outside the car

At last, somebody who got my point! Roll eyes This is what i was saying yesterday but as i was between callouts i didnt have time to write it as comprehensively as this!

I thought one of the main benefits of Gel batteries is the fact you get no acid leakage and they are sealed so no fume? I may be wrong though...

Non of my bmws have killed me, they all have the batteries in either the boot or under the back seat. Batteries have a little vent on the side, this needs to piped to atmosphere, that way you won't die Wink

all batterys Gas when charging

when a battery says sealed it generaly means maintanance free so no topping up for the life of the battery
