Something to replace my catcam 3107s. On building my spare engine back up as the one I get off cjm is down on compression and its definatley not 195bhp as was told.

If PT81's require a deeper pocket in the pistons, these will likely need forged pistons.....

I ran these with standard pistons with the piston valve cut out machined a bit for clearance. With a standard L+B bottom end, a good ported and polished head and jenveys they made 219 bhp

Where they timed on standard marks? Or set up properly?

Well Brett sims motorsport built it and it was running brilliant for 3 years until i upgraded my engine and it was definitely on standard pistons with valve cut out enlarged. I would say forged pistons would be better but that's up to the builder

No good if i need Pocketed pistons. Dont plan to spend fortunes on the engine at the minute. My catcam 3107s i know are close with more lift and duration to pt81 what run on standard pistons...

I think bridgecraft engineering machine standard gti6 pistons for £100 a set and off you go

Fair enough. Don't think I'm having a crack at you, I just am very aware how little clearance there is in these engines for cams with a bigger lift than standard even with a pocketed piston! Out of curiosity how much deeper was the piston pocket machined? Mine have had 1mm taken out which I am led to believe is the maximum safely permitted, even then it's damn close with PT81's, I'm sure if Brett built it, they were timed correctly so I'll now shut up lol! Thumbs up

They won't do more than 1mm as I recall as the piston crown Is too thin!

Unless you specify less we pocket 6 pistons by a further 1mm on both inlet and outlet. We'd do it deeper if you wanted but I really wouldn't recommend it, the crowns are really thin as it is! -1mm is fairly proven to be safe.
