Even on rotrex website it recommends the 8 rib belt for the c38 as it will slip at higher boost levels causing torque spikes? sounds to me like this along with the other issues you're having could be a factor!

Hi got it mapped at my local RR but I think I might get Wayne to do it if I can get hold of him in time

Mabgti have you experience of mapping these as it looks like you have one ?

Wayne's number is 07874328306. If you drop him a text first, then ring, he will likely pick up. I've been on to him this morning, twice already.

You can use the 6 rib but it would probably be an idea to run larger pulleys - especially with rallycross and the s**t that gets thrown up into the engine bay - we're running 6 rib on the buggy but the pulleys are 5.5" and 5" diameter on the crank and charger...

I really don't think the charger will appreciate running without a dump valve, the pressure build up when you release the throttle at high revs is very likely to damage it.
Was your exhaust cam advanced or retarded ?

Wayne's the man, I remember on my engine he was on about adding more fuel to keep exhaust valves cool?? Something like that, I forget!

Hi all

Have ordered a new dump valve so will be refitting this before the next mapping session

I have emailed and text Wayne and tried calling him but currently I am in Trinidad working until next week so just need to keep trying him as I need to get it mapped on the week of the 17th Feb as I have a test day on the 22nd

Jamiapic if you speak to him can you ask him to text me if he can fit it in please.

Cheers marty

Martin,

It needs an 8 rib drive - I'm aware of the lack of availability of the 8 rib belts. The 8 rib belt was the first thing I bought - I then designed the rest of the system around it.

What crankshaft pulley are you using? Are you using the 8 rib one from my kit? You need to use this - it's a larger OD the the standard pulley, and has been sized to give the C38 the correct input shaft speed with an 80mm pulley. If you are using a 6 rib pulley (standard dia), this could explain the boost issue.

You do need a DV, re-circulating not atmospheric.

Cams need to be standard, in the standard timing position. Wayne will adjust cam timing on the dyno to optimise output.

What size restrictor are you using?

What injectors, fuel pump, and fuel pressure reg are you using?

It shouldn't be mapped of throttle angle (alpha-n mapping), it needs to be mapped with engine load being measured via a pressure sensor.

13:1 is too lean at 8,000 RPM - it would be better in the 11's somehwere - this will also help with your cooling and reduce EGTs.

Regards,
Rich

Thanks Rich

After speaking with Omex the have advised that there is a boost / fuel correction map overlay hidden in the settings that I think my RR guy has not altered when mapping but I am waiting for him to confirm this?

Still not got hold of Wayne he is hard to catch as I have text him and called him but no Responce so I am thinking he is too busy or not interested in mapping my car so the big question is who else can map it as time is getting short as I need it running for the 21st anyone used any other companies or have a magic way of getting in touch with Wayne.

I think I will swap out the cams over the weekend for the standard units as I have a few sets laid around and time it up to standard settings.

Starting to panic about getting the car set up 😁😁😁😁

Marty

Compression test it :-)

Remember for a SHB engine, the pistons should be changed to make 8:1 CR instead of the HB's 9:1. Yes

I assume you've done this during the engine build Marty?

Also, out of interest, why did you choose to go with Omex as opposed to the tried and tested DTA setup?

Car is booked in with Wayne next week !!!!!!

I have check compression on it before and all were ok but will change the cams out to the standard ones before i get it re mapped.

Rich
8 Rib belt is now fitted with your bottom pulley just had to swap one of the idler pulleys for a smaller one to get a belt to fit so that's sorted now.

660 Injectors with 044 fuel filter fitted

New DV on order and will be fitted

Thanks for all the help on here and fingers crossed it all works out next week with Wayne.

It sounds like you've got the exact same setup as me now Marty - you should be able to make the correct power from now on.

Good luck with Wayne, keep us updated! Cool

Got the car mapped but it turned out I have the 90 mm pulley on the charger so got 300 hp out of the car and took it for testing at Lydden and it ripped out the top engine mount so have redesigned this to stop it happening again now fitted the 80mm pulley and changed the cams as it had PT81 fitted so that would lower the boost rate
Yesterday it started making a rattle noise like the bottom end so pulled the engine out and found the flywheel has come loose which is strange as I stud locked and torqued the bolts up correctly as normally I just stud lock and windy gun them up so back to standard flywheel with new bolts and box it up this week then off back to Wayne's the following week to get mapped ready for the first race on the 29th march but with 300 bhp it was mental so 400 + will be crazy and should get my 0-60 down below 4 seconds with the Avon's 👍👍👍👍

Even with super grippy tyres i think getting the grip to achieve a 0-60 under 4 seconds is going to be hard. When will the power really start to kick in on your map? Too early and i can imagine it will be wheelspin central... Dunno

Can not explain the grip you get with super soft Avon's warmed up on a start as some of the supercars are sub 2 seconds with 4 wheel drive and they have 550 bhp with 1250kg so would think 450 bhp in a 800 kg car would pull 4 seconds if I can get the grip but the car will spin in 1/2/3 with kuhmo tyres and then put on the Avon's and it will spin in 1st until it hooks up then it just goes 🚗🚗🚗🚗🚗

You will need a new gearbox in no time if you manage to get grip and give it the beans in 3rd then you will be part of the ever growing gearbox killer group lol

Ha i hope not to join the gearbox killer group as i have a tarmac PTS box fitted but even that will struggle with the power although i know the turbo 206 in my class can destroy drive shafts for fun!!!

Booked with Wanye for Thursday and with the 80 mm pulley fitted it's making 20psi boost when holding it on the launch control at 5500 rpm so think I should see 24 psi when it's on the rollers

Let's see if it makes over the 400 bhp ?

Marty
