Hi guys, thinking about removing the power steering cooling pipe as it's rotten, i've read somewhere on here that people have cut it out and joined the two pipes up...this is probably a silly question but i'm just wondering what to use to join the two pipes up? Any help would be muchly appreciated. Thanks.

One option:

The end of the cooling pipe chopped off.

It will only be surface rust. Good wire brush on a grinder should sort it out and a lick of paint

Mine was a little more than surface rust
But as said I used a bit of the good steel pipe and joined the two return hoses directly under the reservoir,
The one under the engine mount is flexible enough to bend it through 90, so you only need about 30-40mm of pipe and two hose clips

I did mine a few months ago and haven't noticed any change, much easier than replacing the pipe too.

The cooling pipe is a big hairpin shaped pipe that runs along the front of the front lower crossmember and is prone to rotting, as for if its needed, ive done without mine for a few months without issue so far.

Just jointed the two hoses as they come off the pipe with a plastic garden hose connectorLOL and two clips.

You don't have to, but it'll get messy if you don't. Yes

While you're there you might as well replace the PAS fluid.

Clamp the hoses up before undoing the cooling pipe. Use vice grips if you don't have proper hose clamps. You'll lose less fluid then.
