Going to be insuring my low boost for the first time in the next couple week, im prob going to go with brentacre, now they do it on a bhp limit and i dont want to insure it at 260 bhp when in the real world the low boost Rolling roads at an average of 240 ( for cost reasons more than anything) Also the qouted me at £790 for the year, 24 years old, 7 years NCB , am i really going to find it cheaper than that? ________________________________________ Built not bought!73k Diablo ph2.5 |

Tell them it's 250 but feels like 140 unless you wring it's neck.________________________________________ |

Mine made pretty much 250 with the smaller cooler on a 30 degree day with heat soak. If you Havnt had it RR'd then just estimate it at 240.And I'm with Greenlight, 26 with 7 years Ncb on another car none on the 6 and cost me under £400 for the year with limited mileage to 4k. ________________________________________ Black power baby! You would say that - but then what did your engine cost? 5 k to build? Ash, what makes the ITB so much better if we put noise aside? People seem to differentiate between turbo and SC when talking about boosted cars. I was under the impression that the SC kit still has the same throttle response as the standard 6 engine, which is still very good.________________________________________ 1992 Onyx Black 205 GTI-62005 Honda S2000 (Sold) 2002 Audi S3 (Sold) 2005 Clio 182 Trophy (sold) |

I'd say without the bodies I'd have got rid of it a long time ago. When I first did the conversion I would almost say my Clio felt quicker. It probably wasn't at all - but that's probably because I wasn't as impressed with the power as I thought I would be. With the bodies on and mapped properly it was a completely different animal. ________________________________________ |

That's interesting Dan. I'm going down the Lynx route as I just couldn't justify spending the same amount on ITB's but getting half the BHP increase.I hope I won't think it was a mistake! I was really keen to go 2.1 with cams and ITBs (using 2nd hand parts), but getting anyone to give an indication of the cost was impossible! ________________________________________ 1992 Onyx Black 205 GTI-62005 Honda S2000 (Sold) 2002 Audi S3 (Sold) 2005 Clio 182 Trophy (sold) |

Throttle response on a properly set up throttle bodie engine is something special ! Especially if that engine kicks out 250bhp like my old unit used to |

At good example of supercharged V NA is...Look at how many SC peugeots have been built since 2009 and how many of the original owners still have them? How many have been built, struggled to sell 6 months later or been broken for parts? Even complete used charger setups are a job to sell on. Is it the reason that people dont want to spend a few thousand on a cheap Peugeot. Maybe or is it people have realised that there not that special... I owned a 360hp/400lb 2 door Impreza, it's 1200kg standard so it's rapid, however I've just sold it (sat on my drive waiting collection at mo ) because I find it dull. However i drive my slower 205 and it's so much more fun, a proper animal! SC conversions will gain more power but there is something special about a tuned NA engine that can't be appreciated on paper. ________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |

I agree about the tuned NA engine to be honest, it does tend to be more raw and give the impression of more power and faster which can be a lot of fun. The SC (certainly in the case of mine) does take slightly longer to get going, but when it does it really flys. I guess you have to decide what you really want as there will always be a trade off. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

For sure. I couldn't drive my 205 daily as its not practical, however you could drive a SC Gti6 205 daily if you wanted. ________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |

Gman, have you ever been in a proper normally aspirated tuned car?My girlfriends next door neighbour has a mk1 escort RS2000 rally car. Its a fully grp 4 car, 200+ from the 8v and he took me out for a spin a little while ago Not the quickest car and my 205 would be quicker in a straight line but I've never been out in a car so amazing. ________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |

No, I haven't been in anything with a highly tuned NA engine. I'm sure your car would be fine as a daily driver if it had all the interior back in, it does your engine not like being driven slow / around town? I will be using my predominantly on the road, but still doing around 5 or 6 tracks days a year. You mention your impreza, but again this is a turbo'd lump, and is quite different in power delivery when compared to the SC route. Agreed on the resale values, and that is one thing that concerns me. However, you still always see people selling ITB set ups, and Ash, weren't you thinking about selling your engine last year? The lynx kit will going on a 205, so hopefully I won't get bored of it like many of the 306 owners. Dan/ash, slipping into chav mode for a second, what sort of 0-60 times or other cars would you say your 205s can do/are on par with? Cheers Graham ________________________________________ 1992 Onyx Black 205 GTI-62005 Honda S2000 (Sold) 2002 Audi S3 (Sold) 2005 Clio 182 Trophy (sold) |

To be fair, resale values aren't really that important. You're not going to spend a few grand on a car to make it worth more come selling time, we all know you'll never get your money back on mods etc. I think the people who do it do so because they are looking to have fun themselves in the vehicle. Maybe some who have decided to sell the kit etc after 6 months is because they have gone low boost and become used to it and want high boost but either cannot afford it or can't be bothered with changing engines etc, therefore decide to sell the kit off to raise some cash... I'm sure you'll be over the moon with it in a 205 though gman. ________________________________________ "Supercharged - 454.1bhp/317.5lb/ft"Peugeot 306 GTi-6 2000 (X), Moonstone |

No idea on a 0-60 time as I've not measured it but I can give a Rotrex'd CTR a good run for it's money Bearing in mind mine is purely a ~£1500 bolt on and map job. Standard cams even. ________________________________________ |

Cheers Graham Yeah my engine, if fitted into a road car would be fine for plenty of use but in my opinion it's not really what it's about.. It starts, runs and drives great even from cold so there's no issue there. I wasn't ever going to sell my engine, the only thing I'd do is have a higher spec head built and go for 260hp. Well I'd say 0-60 is under 5 seconds easy, I've never raced much stuff from a standing start but if you look at the video of me against a hyabusa engined Mk Indy on track you'll see I pull away from it out of the hairpin every time. This is from 20mph to 110mph. Search 205 gti6 Mallory park. ________________________________________ 230 hp 2.1 16v XU 205 rallye on jenveys Project thread here309 3dr K20 Type R |
